This role is an opportunity to develop and execute a strategic plan to expand Flinn’s business by identifying, pursuing, and securing large-scale contracts with K-12 school districts, educational institutions, and adjacent markets.
As Director of Business Development, you’ll lead efforts to grow our custom kitting solutions and other strategic offerings by building long-term partnerships with school districts and institutional clients. Your focus will be on understanding district needs, crafting tailored solutions, and driving high-impact growth across the education sector.
YOUR DAY-TO-DAY
Key Responsibilities
- Lead efforts to secure and manage large contracts with school districts, with a focus on expanding adoption of Flinn Scientific’s solutions
- Drive growth in the company’s custom kitting business by identifying new opportunities and tailoring solutions to meet district-level needs
- Serve as the primary business development and sales lead for school district partnerships, proactively prospecting, pitching, negotiating, and closing large-scale deals
- Cultivate and strengthen long-term relationships with district leaders, administrators, and decision-makers
- Work closely with the operations, product, and marketing teams to ensure seamless design, delivery, and support of custom kitting solutions
- Collaborate with the product team on the development and refinement of offerings that meet the specific requirements of district partners
- Foster a culture of ambition, collaboration, and accountability across the organization
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with cross-functional teams (e.g., operations, sales, marketing) to ensure successful implementation of district contracts
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
You bring a deep understanding of the K–12 education landscape, especially how school districts make decisions and prioritize vendors. You’re not just familiar with the market, you’ve operated in it, built in it, and closed high-value deals in it.Your experience includes:
- A proven track record of prospecting, pitching, and closing large-scale contracts with school districts or comparable institutions
- Direct engagement with district leaders like superintendents, curriculum directors, and procurement officers
- The ability to develop and execute strategic growth plans, you know how to build new business lines or revenue streams from the ground up
- Familiarity with the operational realities of custom product procurement, manufacturing, kitting, and fulfillment
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and project management skills, you know how to partner with internal teams to deliver what was promised
- An entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on innovation, growth, and delivering customer value
