Summary
Performs skilled work associated with the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration tradeEssential Duties
- Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment such as lubricating, cleaning coils, changing filters, and other necessary tasks
- Works under supervision to perform maintenance and repair of freezers, refrigerators, air conditioners, water-source and air-source heat pumps, roof-top units, heaters, boilers and associated control, electrical and plumbing work required to run the mechanical systems
- Utilizes schematics, drawings, layouts, or other specifications to locate and diagnose trouble in the system or equipment
- Applies skills, experience, and general knowledge of theory to the maintenance tasks associated with the related equipment
- Utilizes appropriate tools and draws upon expertise for diagnosis and repairs
- Purchases necessary parts for repairs of related equipment
- Coordinates work with other trades and contractors when needed Uses shop machinery and tools appropriately and safely to complete assigned tasks
- Assists engineers in diagnosing problems and recommending correctable action
- Consult with and advise the HVAC Supervisor and Coordinator of Utilities Services concerning efficiency as related to the proper methods and materials of the trade.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalentIn lieu of Diploma or GED will consider a minimum of 3 years of comparable experience;Certification/Licensure
EPA Refrigerant Certification required or be able to obtain certification during probationary periodValid Georgia Driver License requiredMust be insurable by Fulton County School insurance carriersExperience Qualifications
Minimum of 1 year of verifiable HVAC experience in light commercial or betterKnowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Working knowledge of materials, methods, tools, and equipment of the electrical trade
- Knowledge in use of hand and power tools and large equipment attachments related to the trade
- Must be able to understand and follow directions both written and verbal
- Must be able to work variable shifts
Working Conditions
- Regular exposure to radiant or electrical energy, high voltage (over 440 volts) and/or chemicals
- Regular exposure to moving machinery and/or vehicles
- Regular exposure to weather including heat, cold, dampness, and/or humidity
- May have to work from tall ladders
Physical Demands
- Typically requires climbing ladders; pushing and/or pulling
- May require high degree of precision working with minimum tolerances
- May require stooping, crawling, and bending
- Requires distinguishing colors and/or depth perception to judge distances
- Using equipment requiring high dexterity
