The Tarlton Law Library is seeking three motivated students to assist as Tech Desk Assistants.
Purpose
The Tech Desk Assistant provides customer-oriented computer assistance for word processing, internet, printing, and multimedia applications. The Tech Desk Assistant also provides support for the library’s Circulation Desk.
Responsibilities
Assist students in person, over the phone, or by chat at the library’s Tech Desk.
Maintain and report issues with lab computers.
Troubleshoot wireless restricted access to laptops and mobile devices.
Maintain printers located throughout the law library.
Troubleshoot exam testing software during exam periods.
Maintain a clean work environment in the lab and staff area.
Provide support for the library’ s Circulation Desk. Assist patrons in finding and accessing materials in the library and use the online library system to check in and out materials.
Communicate library policies and procedures.
Conduct regular library floor rounds to identify and document issues with the library facilities (e.g., burned out lights or restroom issues).
Participate in other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin as an undergraduate or graduate student.
Meet minimum eligibility requirements for student employment.
Authorized to work in the United States.
Ability to work the entire 25-26 academic year.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working in a library
Familiarity with Library of Congress call-number system
Work study award verification
Salary Range
$17 per hour (undergraduate classification)
$19 per hour (Master’s classification)
$21 per hour (PhD classification)
Working Conditions
Onsite work at the library is the normal expectation.
Typical office conditions.
Repetitive use of a keyboard, use of manual dexterity.
Lift and move standard office files and supplies.
Wear appropriate office attire.
Accept supervision.
Work Schedule
Position begins around August 18, 2025 and ends around May 15, 2026.
Work may be scheduled flexibly during core business hours of Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, and weekend afternoons between 12pm and 4pm.
The expectation is an average of 10-15 hours a week.
Some weekend shifts are expected.
