Position Summary:
The Strategic Sourcing Manager is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for assigned categories including IT and other technical spend, building, and maintaining relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers, negotiating product and services pricing. The individual will play a key role in introducing and implementing sourcing best practices to the organization. The individual will be able to manage change and effectively partner with the business leaders while delivering tangible value to the organization through cost savings, supply risk reduction and efficiency gains. This position is a San Diego based on-site/hybrid role with two to three days a week in our corporate headquarters.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
These may include but are not limited to:
- Maintain professional relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers.
- Responsible for working with cross-functional teams to reduce costs while achieving expected customer service levels.
- Select or recommend suppliers, develop and solicit bids and proposals, analyze and evaluate responses, negotiate product and services prices and other terms, monitor deliveries, work with accounting to reconcile invoice discrepancies and approve payments.
- Research, interview, evaluate, and select prospective vendors.
- Evaluate supplier reliability and performance.
- Partner with legal and contracts group to manage and maintain the contracts terms.
- Ensure quality of procured items and processes.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
- Collaborate closely and serve as a trusted sourcing business partner while driving a disciplined strategic sourcing approach for assigned functions/categories.
- Lead key sourcing initiatives, conduct RFPs, negotiate critical contracts, analyze market data, evaluate supply alternatives, and develop and execute on negotiation strategies to deliver best value for the organization.
- Measure and track performance within each spend category or region and partner with FP&A to review budgetary impact.
- Partner with IT to stay ahead of renewals and optimize true ups and total cost of ownership
- Be informed on market cost drivers, economic outlooks, and supply and contractual risks ensuring relevant market intelligence is communicated to appropriate personnel.
- Monitor, track, and report on savings and key performance indicators (KPIs) for targeted categories.
- Continuously assess the existing supply base to identify and pursue opportunities for consolidation & improvement. Serve as the SME for supplier segmentation strategies.
- Lead QBRs with key suppliers.
Education and Experience:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field.
- 8 years of experience in strategic sourcing, contract management, and procurement preferably within the Life Sciences industry.
- Experience negotiating IT contracts including Saas, Paas, Hardware, Managed service.
- Experience with sourcing, procurement, and building a vendor program.
- Strong negotiating skills, as well as excellent communication, i.e., verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively across multiple departments and levels of the organization, as well as with outside vendors.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented, and collaborative environment.
- Ability to evaluate market conditions and various suppliers.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Activities: On a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Some walking and lifting up to 25 lbs. may be required. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate. Laboratory Activities (if applicable): Biology and chemical laboratory environment experience needed. Environmental health and safety requirements also apply.
Travel:
You may be required to travel for up to 5% of your time.
The Anticipated Base Salary Range: $113,000-$141,000
