About the role
AppStream 2.0 is an AWS End User Computing (EUC) service that can be configured for SaaS application streaming or delivery of virtual desktops with selective persistence. AppStream 2.0 also offers multi-session capability, allowing you to provision multiple user sessions on a single AppStream 2.0 instance. The End User Computing market is growing at an incredible pace with a rapid increase in adoption and growth. As a result, we offer a unique opportunity to solve some of the most interesting problems associated with providing secure, reliable, fast and highly scalable solutions. In the process you will have the opportunity to work on a number of industry leading AWS services including EC2, S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis and SWF. Our team is innovating in multiple areas to give our customers the best in class interactive streaming platform. Millions of concurrent streams, snappy click to app stream start, faster than human perception end to end streaming latency, lowest possible cost per streaming session, secure and isolated streams for best compute and graphics utilization, high fidelity graphics, broad server OS selection as well as client OS footprint. In this Software Development Manager position, an ideal candidate will:
- Lead the team designing, implementing, and launching software to solve a range of problems for AppStream.
- Manage growth of and mentor a team of 8-12 engineers.
- Establish a close partnership with a dedicated product team who have established a bold vision for application streaming solutions.
- Collaborate with other products and domains within End User Computing.
- Work in a fast-paced, self-starting culture oriented toward building proof-of-concept and innovative solutions quickly.
- Manage a minimum of tech debt.
- Ensure an emphasis on privacy and compliance, ensuring that AppStream continues to earn and preserve customer trust.

A Software Development Manager wears many hats at Amazon. An ideal candidate for this role will need to be well-rounded across technical, program, and people management.
- Raise the tech bar: Have a deep understanding of the tech behind the products we build and own, including system architecture and AWS technologies. Though you will work with senior and principal engineers, you must be able to provide and advocate for your own technical point of view.
- Collaborate on product direction: Build and maintain a strong, working relationship between the engineering team and product management, translating product vision and requirements into working software.
- Lead beyond your team: Be a leader within Amazon’s advertising organization. Share best practices and technical acumen in order to drive technology and process decisions across our organization.
- Deliver quickly and incrementally: Provide structure to the development activities of your team, building and releasing features iteratively.

Santa Clara, CA, USA
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Master's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent
- Proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously and ability to work in a fast-paced environment where continuous innovation is desired

Basic Qualifications

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Master's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent
- Proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously and ability to work in a fast-paced environment where continuous innovation is desired
