About the role

Job Summary: This mechanic position demonstrates the ability to perform basic inspections, basic diagnoses, and basic repairs of diesel-powered heavy equipment and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. Works as a member of a team to provide basic mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
  • Performs basic disassembles and assembles of machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling 
  • Assists in the rebuilding, repairing, reconditioning, and maintaining of equipment and components
  • Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
  • Learns how to plan equipment and component repairs
  • Learns how to complete parts orders and identify parts for return
  • Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition 
  • Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner 
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
  • Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., ProTech Technician Training Paths 
  • Requires regular and punctual employee attendance 
  • Performs other duties as assigned       

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment machines such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, and other dirt moving equipment preferred  
  • Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems
  • Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
  • Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
  • Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job 
  • Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions 
  • Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
  • The ability to read, write, and understand information
  • The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Must have/acquire basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)

 

Education and Experience:

  • One or more years of diesel-powered heavy equipment repair experience preferred 
  • Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred 
  • Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred

  • None
