Job Description
AECOM is seeking a high-caliber, dynamic Senior Technical Architect to serve as the Technical Lead for the growing Chicago architecture studio. The successful candidate will be part of AECOM’s Building + Places Leadership team to help win, design and lead teams of architects on projects across a set of market sectors. This candidate will help AECOM deliver peer recognized design work while striving to incorporate our Environmental, Social, and Governance goals on each project.
About Buildings + Places:
Our Buildings + Places practice includes architecture, interiors, building and system engineering, urbanism and planning (inclusive of landscape design), strategy +, economics, technology solutions, asset advisory, and cost and program management. This team assists our clients from strategy through project realization, creating positive outcomes for those who occupy and use the buildings and environments we help to create. Our Chicago studio focuses on the Commercial/Corporate, Science and Technology, Transit/Rail, Aviation and Federal market sectors. We look to combine beauty, sustainability, resiliency, equity, and innovation in our projects and believe these values can be instilled in any project regardless of size or budget.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Provide a design-driven technical and management leadership approach to the architecture team.
- Build strong relationships and interactions with clients, teaming partners, and stakeholders
- Develop and oversee architectural drawings (plans, elevations, sections, details, etc.) and specifications
- Direct document production in accordance with identified project specific checklists, AECOM standards, and QA/QC standard program
- Anticipate and develop solutions to technical and design problems following established standards
- Work with Project Managers to define scope from initial project information and overseeing preparation of associated fee proposals, schedules, work plans and additional service requests as required.
- Supervise, recruit, mentor and promote staff in all stages of employee success.
- Promote firm and project goals of excellence in design, execution, and sustainability
- Ability to work collaboratively with teams across multiple AECOM offices
- Becoming actively involved in organizations at the leadership level
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or a related field + 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Licensed as a Registered Architect
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree.
- 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Self-motivated with proven leadership skills.
- Detail oriented, thorough, well-organized and have strong time-management skills.
- Advanced knowledge of the architectural planning and design process, construction documentation, construction administration and code requirements
- Proven record of maintaining client relationships.
- Experience managing and mentoring staff.
- Experience with various delivery methods including Design Build and CMaR.
- Experience with large, complex projects ($500M+).
- Outstanding oral communication, written and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational skills – ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficient in REVIT, Adobe and other software programs used for design development and documentation.
