What’s the role?
As the Technical Accounting, Senior Manager, you will be responsible for diverse, complex technical accounting areas. You will serve as the primary resource for researching and documenting technical accounting topics. You’ll work closely with teams both in and outside of finance, including Product, Engineering, Business Development, FP&A, Tax, Treasury and Legal.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Director, Accounting and the base salary range will be $107,000 - 138,000 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn office in an in-person or flex capacity. Candidates living within commutable distance of the Brooklyn Hub, may be the first to be considered. What does the day-to-day look like?
- Ensuring thoughtful, timely and accurate research and documentation of technical accounting matters applicable to the company, such as Goodwill & intangible asset impairment testing, Derivatives, Debt instruments (convertible debt, traditional debt), Investments, Leases, Mergers and acquisitions, Cloud based contracts, Capitalized website development costs, Segment & reporting unit analyses, and other material transactions impacting the business.
- Staying informed on new accounting guidance for applicability to the company and ensuring proper implementation and disclosure in our financial statements
- Preparing disclosures of technical accounting matters in SEC filing documents, including 10Ks, 10Qs and 8Ks.
- Reviewing all new Company contracts for accounting and disclosure implications.
- Partnering with Legal and other business areas to resolve issues.
- Reviewing all new Company initiatives for accounting and disclosure implications. Build strong relationships within the accounting and overall finance teams, as well as cross-functionally in order to support these initiatives and resolve issues.
- Liaising with Internal Audit to ensure a strong internal financial control environment with regard to new accounting areas (e.g. new accounting pronouncements, new product initiatives, M&A activity, and other technical accounting transactions)
- Working closely with the external audit team and internal controls team to provide supporting documents related to all technical accounting areas.
- Preparing presentations for the Controller, CAO and/or Executive Team on critical and/or material accounting matters.

Qualifications
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
- 6+ years, with a minimum of two years in a global SEC-compliant organization or as an auditor for a global SEC filer at a public accounting firm.
- BS Degree in Accounting (Masters of Accounting a plus).
- CPA certification required.
- Experience with technical accounting research and technical memo writing
- An ability to interpret and apply complex authoritative and interpretive US GAAP guidance in a way that is easy for others to understand.
- An ability to prioritize and work dedicatedly and independently, productively collaborating with relevant teams as necessary to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
- An ability to collaborate with cross-functional peers and other members of management.
