The Opportunity
Are you a strategic, relationship‑driven procurement professional who loves optimizing supplier performance and shaping global sourcing strategies? Our St Paul, MN location is seeking an experienced Senior Procurement Specialist to own and elevate our direct materials procurement category, supporting and be responsible for managing suppliers and materials necessary to support commercial product lines for Capital Equipment. In this high‑impact role, you’ll serve as a key influencer across Operations, R&D, Quality, Supplier Quality, and Corporate Procurement—helping us build competitive advantage through strong sourcing strategies, supplier management, and continuous improvement. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.
What You’ll Work On
- Partner with internal stakeholders to leverage supplier capabilities that best support business needs.
- Consolidate and cultivate a high-performing supplier base aligned with current and future commodity needs.
- Recommend strategic changes based on market and supplier intelligence.
- Lead cost‑reduction initiatives in partnership with cross-functional teams.
- Negotiate and manage contracts/agreements for assigned commodities.
- Provide coaching and guidance to purchasing and commodity team members on contract management, negotiation, policies, and supplier engagement.
- Develop and execute risk management strategies with clear short‑ and long‑term plans.
- Identify alternate sources to support continuity of supply and maintain cost competitiveness.
- Maintain strong internal and external stakeholder relationships to support enterprise success.
- Independently manage assigned suppliers, including performance monitoring and continuous improvement expectations.
- Utilize systems such as SAP, Windchill (print packages), Excel, Power BI, and quality system platforms (Epic).
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of procurement and/or category management experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships and solve problems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and cross‑cultural.
- Ability to develop actionable implementation plans.
- Working knowledge of procurement processes and category management best practices.
- Understanding of category‑related technologies and products.
- Strong negotiation abilities.
- Willingness to travel up to 20%, including internationally.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPSM, CPM, or similar professional certification.
- MBA.
