In the Senior Java Software Engineering role, you will be integral in crafting, coding, and refining Java-based applications within a Linux, Agile, and DevOps framework. Our focus at the forefront of aerospace and defense technology is on enabling exceptional communication, surveillance, and defense capabilities through state-of-the-art satellite systems. This role is not just about building new software solutions; it also involves the operations and maintenance of existing applications, ensuring they meet our rigorous standards and continuously evolve to support our mission. Join our Satellite Ground Systems Team to challenge the limits of technological advancements. Due to the security clearance requirements, this onsite position will be available in our State College, PA or Sterling, VA location.
What You Will Do
As a Senior Java Software Engineer, your primary focus will be on the development, operations, and enhancement of sophisticated software applications for Satellite Ground Systems. While maintenance and operational support of existing systems form a crucial part of your role, you will also have plenty of opportunities for new development, contributing to the next generation of our technology solutions. You will:
- Design, implement, and test Java-based applications and software components for satellite ground systems, ensuring their reliability and scalability.
- Play a key role in the operations and maintenance of existing software applications, troubleshooting issues, and implementing fixes to ensure continuous operational excellence.
- Engage in the development of new software solutions, working in close collaboration with systems engineers and hardware designers to create robust, high-performance software.
- Work within a DevOps environment using Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Jenkins, Jira, Git, Bitbucket, and Gradle, embodying the principles of Agile development through both Scrum and Kanban methodologies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define software requirements and specifications, working with previously written code and making modifications as necessary.
- Participate in software design reviews, code reviews, and system integration activities, continuously looking for ways to improve software processes and adhere to best practices in software development.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
- Five (5) years of experience in object-oriented software design and development using Java in a Linux environment and using unit testing tools (e.g., JUnit).
- Experience in scripting languages such as Python.
- Experience in an Agile/DevOps environment.
- Ability to obtain a Security+ certification within 3 months of starting the position.
- Active and transferable TS/SCI with a CI Polygraph U.S. government issued security clearance awarded recently within three years prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Experience working in a DevOps environment using Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Jenkins, Jira, Git, Bitbucket and Gradle.
- Experience working in an Agile Development environment using Scrum and Kanban.
- Current Security+ certification.
- Experience using the Atlassian tool suite.
- Experience with satellite communication systems and protocols is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with secure coding practices, especially in a defense or aerospace setting.
- Master’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
