Where the chemistry happens…

Our team is currently seeking a Senior-Level Ecotoxicologist to join us in providing extensive support for the development, maintenance, and stewardship of BASF's crop protection products worldwide. With a particular focus on the North American Region, this role will involve overseeing the maintenance and contribution to crop protection active ingredients, as well as providing guidance and leadership in ecotoxicology for the development of new active ingredients across different regions, including Europe. Additionally, the selected candidate will assume responsibility for spearheading scientific advocacy initiatives on crucial ecotoxicology matters within the North American Region.

 

This position will feature a hybrid working arrangement, with a typical week consisting of 3 days working onsite in Research Triangle Park, NC and 2 days working remotely from home.

 

As a Senior Ecotoxicologist, You Create Chemistry By...

 

• Providing guidance on data needs, safe uses, and stewardship recommendations to global active ingredient teams
• Monitoring ecotoxicology studies with aquatic organisms conducted in North America
• Participating in and leading industry association committees, work groups, and task forces on relevant ecotoxicology topics
• Attending seminars, training courses, and professional association meetings to stay updated on international regulatory ecotoxicology requirements and risk assessment paradigms
• Maintaining oversight and maintenance of crop protection active ingredients for global ecotoxicology safety

If you...

 

Education 

• Ph.D. in Toxicology, Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Sciences, or related field of study with at least 10 years of relevant experience in the crop protection industry

Experience

• Previous experience in leading the development of ecotoxicology data packages to support the registration of new crop protection active ingredients both inside and outside of North America
• Experience with designing and monitoring ecotoxicology studies with aquatic organisms, including studies to evaluate endocrine-related effects.
• Experience with presenting data to and negotiating date needs with regulatory authorities both inside and outside of North America
• Experience with overseeing the development of European ecotoxicology dossiers, particularly for aquatic organisms.  
• Experience with mentoring junior ecotoxicology scientists.
• Experience with leading (i.e., Chairmanship) association committees, work groups and task forces.

Knowledge/Skills

• In-depth knowledge of the ecological risk assessment paradigms for aquatic organisms, especially for North America and Europe.
• Experience with designing and monitoring higher-tier studies and conducting higher-tier risk assessments for aquatic organisms.
• Experience with conducting risk assessments and developing exposure mitigation measures for threatened and endangered species
• Ability to travel up to 5% - domestically and internationally
