Job Description

We currently have an opportunity for an Intermediate to Working level System Safety and Reliability Engineer. In this role you will be tasked with influencing the system design by ensuring adherence to system safety and reliability requirements in the development, integration, and production phases of the engineering cycle.

You will also:

  • The System Safety and Reliability Engineer shall report to the Reliability, Maintainability, Testability, and Safety (RMT&S) Manager for day-to-day direction.
  • The Safety and Reliability Engineer will assess contractual system safety requirements, standards and regulations by writing plans and participating in internal and external design reviews, Configuration Control Boards and Prime Contractor System Safety Working Groups to monitoring progress.
  • Providing inputs to developers regarding the optimization of the system, evaluating the design to minimize occurrences and impact of hazards and following up to ensure safety measures are implemented will be key components of the role.
  • The Safety engineer will also be tasked with executing Hazard Assessments and Fault Tree Analyses and categorizing hazards in accordance with the probability of occurrence and severity classifications. 

Qualifications

Education & Experience 

  • Bachelor degree in applicable discipline 
  • Experience in the application of system safety disciplines to civilian or military programs, 
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-882E, MIL-STD-1629A, and SAE ARP 4761; DEF-STAN-0055/56
  • Knowledge of systems engineering, hardware design, and software design methods and processes;
  • Familiar with Reliability, Maintainability, and FMEA tools.
  • Experienced in the development and delivery of technical documentation for complex systems;
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Canadian Security Clearance and a positive Controlled Goods Assessment. Eligibility to work in Canada either as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Ideally you will also have some experience in the following;

  • Experienced in SAFe Agile environment desirable;
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-882E, MIL-STD-1629A, SAE ARP 4761, DEF STAN 00-055 and DEF STAN 00-056
  • Knowledge of systems engineering, hardware design, and software design methods and processes;
  • Land vehicle and component level safety experience;
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability as a team player
