Quality Lab Tech (1st Shift)

Job Description- Quality Assurance (Lab) Technician 

Backup: Quality Assurance Supervisor, other Lab Technicians 

 

M-F 5:30am-4:30pm

 

Role Overview:  

Lab Technicians are responsible for ensuring that all finished products are tested and run within specification.  Technicians train on all Lab duties (though tasks are divided between multiple technicians) and include: Sample procurement, equipment calibration, finished product testing, COA production and raw material testing. 

 

Reports to: Quality Assurance and Technical Services Manager, Quality Assurance Supervisor 

Direct Reports: N/A 

Principal Duties as a QA Lab Technician:  

1. Set up and calibrate lab equipment 

1. Check the Production line at the beginning of each new product to ensure that the proper raw materials and ingredients are being used 

1. Check the Packaging line at the beginning of each product run to ensure proper product labeling and identification 

1. Perform required on-line testing (Fat, Moisture, pH, etc.) during Production to ensure that products will function and conform to specifications 

1. Communicate with Production staff regarding formula adjustments 

1. Perform finished product testing on samples the following production day which includes: Melt, Flavor, Color, Functionality and Microbiological testing 

1. Generate reports on all finished products following testing 

1. Conduct additional costumer-specific testing on finished products (Sauce, Viscosity, Water Activity, etc.) 

1. Perform environmental swabbing on a weekly basis 

1. Obtain cheese samples of incoming raw materials for analytical testing 

1. Obtain and prepare hot product samples for pathogen testing 

1. Other lab-related duties as assigned which may include: 

1. Completing COAs 

1. Product Formula generation 

 

Other Duties: 

1. Demonstrate adherence to the site’s Safety and GMP practices 

1. Attend monthly facility Safety training  

1. Assist with appropriate Risk Assessments upon request 

1. Assist with appropriate Accident/Incident Investigations and Right-to-Refuse Investigation 

 

Qualifications: 

1. High school education or higher 

1. Good work standing with regards to performance and attendance 

1. Must have basic computer skills 

1. Ability to multi-task effectively 

1. Ability to represent the company in an upbeat and professional manner 

1. Strong attention to detail 

2. Support a safe work environment 

3. Must be self-motivated, dependable and a team player 

1. Good communication skills 

1. Knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point applications to a food production facility 

1. Ability to give and take direction
