Summary Description
This position is responsible for ensuring industry leading quality and compliance performance at KINA’s Winchester, Virginia and Newark, Ohio sites. As a key leader at both locations, this person will lead the adoption of all compliance and quality initiatives. The Quality Engineer will ultimately make the determination if a process must be stopped due to sub-standard quality or out of compliance product.
This role will work closely with the local Ops Team as well as the Divisional Ops Team to build both quality and product compliance into every product. The Quality Engineer will be the leader for ISO certification at both sites and will be a key contributor to Kingspan’s integrated management system. This role will also work very closely with the Technical Services Team to ensure product inspections are aligned with compliance requirements.
The Quality Engineer will also be critical in building processes and procedures that help position KINA for continued growth in North America while adhering to our values and protecting our brand/reputation.
Essential Duties
Essential duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Other duties may be assigned.
- Performs work in a safe manner; promotes and fosters a safe work environment.
- Establish quality processes and procedures to comply with ISO9001 & ISO37301 certifications
- Manages daily, monthly and yearly quality KPIs.
- Collaborate with Procurement Team to ensure raw materials from external suppliers meet quality requirements through COA analysis and raw material testing procedures
- Ensure manufacturing processes follow both national and industry standards of production.
- Manage site quality complaint process to ensure corrective and preventative action is in place to prevent reoccurrence.
- Offer recommendations to company management on ways to improve on existing quality processes.
- Collect, compile and analyse relevant quality statistical data to obtain information regarding quality performance.
- Supervise technicians, inspectors and other company staff to ensure they perform their duties in line with established quality procedures.
- Monitor product development processes to identify deviations from quality policies.
- Manage quality labs to ensure equipment is calibrated and functioning properly as well as identify new machines or methods of testing.
- Conduct tests to verify the quality of raw materials and finished products.
- Review existing process and product specification to identify the need for improvement or upgrade.
- Approve compliant products and reject defective ones.
- Prepare and present report to update upper management on quality activities.
- Maintain proper records of quality test, procedures and standards.
- Leads site in ISO9001 certification and maintenance.
- Meets with auditors and leads internal/external audit process and taking ownership to ensure all raised non-conformances are closed
- Manage and resolve internal & external operational complaints, ensuring timely corrective actions and continuous improvement
- Remain compliant with the Code of Conduct and Policies which includes the Product Compliance Policy.
- Ensure that all duties related to product compliance are adhered to in accordance with the Product Compliance Policy, Laws, Regulations, and markets demands.
- Responsible for all tasks to achieve compliance goals and demands of Compliance Management System.
- Must raise concerns related to the Compliance Management System to their supervisor, manager, any member of the Leadership Team, or through the confidential whistle blower service.
- Contributes to various projects and responsibilities as business needs evolve.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Education and/or Experience: BS in engineering or related field, plus five (5) years of experience in quality assurance and or product compliance.
Must have:
- Possess the confidence and courage to take action and speak up to ensure quality standards are met.
- Excellent communicator and collaborator. Help instill a quality and compliance mindset in our culture.
- Strong working knowledge of business computer applications (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word). SAP or similar software experience preferred.
- Strong math, time management, and organization skills.
- Strong data entry, charting, and attention to detail skills.
- Ability to intervene with other departments when necessary.
