Arlington County's Department of Human Services (DHS) seeks a full-time Management Intern to support a recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, victim/survivor-centered human services program. This role will provide both administrative support and direct client services for the Arlington Partner/SHIFT (Shaping Healthy Interactions For Tomorrow) Program, a County-wide initiative focused on intimate and domestic violence offender support and accountability. 

Interns will support the day-to-day functions of the program including client onboarding and support, administrative tasks, facilitating psychoeducational groups and providing ongoing follow-up and documentation. This position reports to the Partner/SHIFT Program Coordinator and is part of Project PEACE in the Economic Independence Division of the Department of Human Services.

Under the guidance of a mentor, responsibilities include:  

  • Providing direct services to individuals using harmful or abusive relationship behaviors by conducting intakes, delivering orientation and group sessions, and offering individualized, holistic support through referrals and case management;
  • Orienting and onboarding new participants to the Partner/SHIFT program by scheduling onboarding activities, following up with referral sources and ensuring that paperwork is completed and/or signed by participants;
  • Ensuring efficient and timely completion of intakes, assessments and groups;
  • Facilitating bi-monthly orientation and assisting with facilitation of groups (two to three evenings per week);
  • Engaging with survivors connected to program participants through support, assessment, referrals and psychoeducation;
  • Completing all necessary trainings, participate in team meetings and adhere to policies and guidelines of the program;
  • Assisting participants with accessing other resources by providing them with information on available resources and services and making needed referrals; and
  • Supporting administrative functions, including scheduling, personnel, meetings, and clerical duties.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the social service field; exceptional organization and communication skills; and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
