The Opportunity

The primary goal of a Manager, Product Technology Delivery, is to lead, mentor, and oversee agile data development team(s) to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality data products across the enterprise. This is a technical role and requires the individual to understand data and software architecture, design, and testing principles, and be able to apply them to ensure the delivery of data products is of the highest quality and standards.

Day in the Life

  • Provide strong leadership and mentorship to the data development team, including setting clear goals, defining roles and responsibilities, and establishing a collaborative and motivating work environment.
  • Work with stakeholders to mentor the team to define project requirements, scope, and timelines. Develop project plans, allocate resources, and monitor progress to ensure timely and successful delivery of data projects.
  • Offer technical guidance and expertise to the development team. Stay updated with modern data engineering best practices, emerging technologies, and industry trends. Provide support in architectural design, coding standards, and troubleshooting complex technical issues.
  • Foster the professional growth and development of team members. Provide mentoring, coaching, and guidance to help them enhance their skills and advance their careers. Identify training needs and facilitate learning opportunities for the team.
  • Facilitate effective collaboration and communication within the data development team and with other stakeholders. Encourage knowledge sharing, cross-functional cooperation, and effective communication channels to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Ensure the team follows best practices for data development, including code reviews, testing strategies, and quality assurance processes. Set and maintain high standards for data quality, performance, and reliability.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges in data development projects. Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to minimize the impact of unforeseen issues on project timelines and deliverables.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including product owners, business leaders, and other teams, to understand their needs, provide updates on project progress, and address any concerns or issues. Foster strong relationships and effective communication with stakeholders.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the data development team. Encourage feedback, collect data, and analyze metrics to identify areas for improvement in processes, tools, and team performance. Implement changes to enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Provide direction and leadership to staff; guide, coach, mentor and develop staff ensuring compliance with processes and procedures
  • Handle interviewing, hiring, promotions, transfers, performance appraisals, compensation, counseling and termination of staff
  • Develop and maintain staff by applying the necessary training and leadership that will allow internal growth and advancement
  • Direct staff, to ensure that all duties are performed according to department performance standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering or Management Information Systems Business related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Seven (7) plus years of experience in software or data development roles.
  • Five (5) plus years in a senior or subject matter expert position.
  • Three (3) plus years of Resource Management experience.
  • Experience leveraging modern big data technologies in cloud platforms like Azure (preferred), AWS, or GCP.
  • Experience with ingesting batch and streaming data, as well as familiarity with “zero ETL” data sharing concepts and capabilities.
  • Experience with modern Data Warehousing and Data Lakehouse’s in Databricks, Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Redshift, etc.
  • Experience with modern ELT/ETL frameworks and orchestration in tools such as Airflow, dbt, Fivetran, Informatica, Azure Data Factory, Stonebranch, etc.
  • Experience with a wide variety of programming and scripting languages.  Highly proficient in SQL and Python.
  • Experience with DevOps CI/CD
