Why your role matters

The Manager, Business Strategy & Planning plays a key role in leading the operational delivery of the Strategy & Planning function within the Registrar & Student Services (RaSS) portfolio. Working closely with the Head, Strategy & Planning, the role translates strategic priorities into an integrated program of work, bringing together planning, analysis, governance and continuous improvement activities to support informed decision-making and shape the portfolio’s future operating model.

Providing day-to-day leadership across agreed workstreams, the Manager ensures high-quality outcomes are delivered on time and in line with governance requirements. The role builds strong relationships with senior stakeholders across RaSS, the broader Division of Education & Student Experience and the University, coordinating consultation, interpreting business needs and turning complex information into clear, evidence-based insights and recommendations.

Reporting to the Head, Strategy & Planning and leading one direct report, this role is an opportunity to contribute to strategic and operational priorities across a complex portfolio, influence how services evolve, and help translate strategy into practical, coordinated action.

Specific accountabilities include:

• Manage delivery of the portfolio strategic planning agenda established by the Head, Strategy & Planning, translating agreed priorities into an integrated work program with clear outcomes, sequencing, milestones and accountabilities.
• Lead the day-to-day operation of the Strategy & Planning function, including allocating work, supervising direct reports, coordinating dependencies and ensuring agreed deliverables are completed to the required quality and timeframe.
• Coordinate stakeholder consultation to gather and interpret business requirements, coordinate analytical input, and prepare evidence-based recommendations for the Head, Strategy & Planning on resource allocation, service design and transformation.
• Develop and maintain planning and governance processes that support consistent application across the RaSS function and alignment with priorities established by the Head, Strategy & Planning.

About You:  

• Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading operational delivery of strategic planning, service improvement or transformation initiatives within a large and complex organisation.
• Strong ability to translate strategic priorities into structured work programs, manage competing priorities and achieve timely delivery.
• Demonstrated capability to supervise staff, coordinate work allocation and support team performance.
• Excellent consultation, influencing and negotiation skills, with proven ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, test assumptions and develop robust recommendations.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports, presentations and executive-level documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently and/or collaboratively when required and maintain focus in a dynamic environment.
