Join a dynamic team collaborating to meet that goal!Reporting to the Manager, Improvement Initiatives the Lead, Strategy Development (at Teck known as Lead, Improvement Initiatives) is responsible for leading the prioritization, development, and implementation of Teck’s strategies for risks, opportunities and uncertainties emerging through our continued understanding of water quality, flow and aquatic life. You will coordinate and work collaboratively across the Sustainable Development and mine site operation teams to support the successful implementation of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan. To be successful, we are looking for someone with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, who can build and maintain positive relationships with partners across all levels of our organization. We require someone who has strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, demonstrated leadership and organizational skills. Responsibilities:
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Lead water programs to define outcomes in order to meet business objectives related to water strategy and permit commitments
- Lead efficient decision processes through information gathering, trade-off studies, risk evaluations, and providing recommendations that align with program objectives and strategic priorities
- Contribute to the continual improvement of governance processes and project delivery systems to enable improved outcomes for current and future programs
- Collaborate with Sustainable Development and mine site operation teams to develop action plans and prioritize resources that inform strategy, planning, and budgets
- Develop and maintain working relationships with key partners through regular dialogue
- Identify, develop and lead the execution of initiatives and projects supporting strategy setting for water risks and value creation opportunities
- Incorporate an adaptive management approach to ensure effective management of change processes are employed
Qualifications:
- Engineering or Science degree in an environmental-related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum seven years of professional work experience in project management, environmental sciences, permitting, or mining
- Excellent project management skills including project governance, risk management, and management of scope, schedule, and budget for multiple programs
- Knowledge and experience with federal and provincial compliance practices and regulations related to water quality and quantity, water management, and resource development
- Experience providing strategic and technical recommendations on operational and business related risks and opportunities to Senior Leadership
- Have or be eligible for a professional designation is an asset
