Job Description

Position Purpose

The purpose of this position is to support access, persistence, retention, and success of international students at Century College. The position coordinates and collaborates with other departments within Student Affairs (Admissions, Records, Academic Advising), Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and Division of Finance and Administration in order to support the admissions, enrollment, transition and retention of international students; coordinates and facilitates the learning and development of students; develops, implements, and evaluates programs; serves as a campus-wide college resource and expert in the Code of Federal Regulations and MinnState policies as they pertain to international students. This position serves as Principal Designated School Official. This position leads the development and maintenance of internal and external relationships and collaborations to support the success of international student services and programming. In addition, this position also coordinates key student-related events, such as the college’s commencement ceremony.

Position Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with departments campus-wide to provide advising and support services to international students and support student retention, persistence, and completion.

  • Serve as the campus-wide college expert (Principal Designated School Official (PDSO)  on rules and regulations for F-1 international students, including published regulations in the Code of Federal Regulations, ICE- Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) guidance and interpretations, and MinnState policies as they pertain to international students.

  • Coordinate the admissions, enrollment, and transition process for international students.

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs and programming designed to increase student retention, completion, and success.

  • Coordinate key student-related events for the college/Student Affairs division.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in related field

  • Training and/or experience in providing support services to international students.

  • Demonstrated ability to set job priorities, direct, organize, and provide leadership of multiple related assignments and tasks.

  • Demonstrated ability to use analytic reasoning and determine alternatives to addressing complex situations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, and administration and foster and support a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment.

  • Experience developing, coordinating, and evaluating programs, events, and activities.

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including public speaking.

Preferred Qualification 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field

  • Experience related to collegiate setting.

  • Knowledge of federal laws and requirements for international students.

  • Knowledge of issues faced by international students and knowledge of resources in order to recommend those that are most appropriate, including referral to internal and external resources.

  • Ability to interpret institutional and state policies and guidelines and translate them into procedures and processes, working to resolve incongruences.

  • Experience with Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).

  • Experience maintaining student records via the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services record keeping system (SEVIS).

  • Working experience with student database tracking systems.

  • Working knowledge and proficiency in data maintenance systems.
