About the role
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented International Assistant Controller to oversee and manage the accounting operations of our international subsidiaries. This role is pivotal in ensuring financial accuracy, regulatory compliance, and timely reporting across multiple geographies. The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, international experience, and a proactive mindset for process improvement and technology integration.
What you'll do
- Ensure accurate and timely financial close processes for international subsidiaries in line with internal deadlines
- Execute complex accounting tasks, including technical and multi-entity accounting requirements for international subsidiaries
- Manage franchisor accounting activities, including:
- Initial franchise fee recognition
- Royalty calculations, invoicing, and collections
- Perform monthly foreign currency translations and record all related journal entries
- Oversee VAT tax compliance, including filing, documentation, and coordination with local advisors
- Lead and support the selection, implementation, and optimization of new technology systems for foreign entities (e.g., ERP, POS, AP automation, credit card integration)
- Identify opportunities to streamline and improve the month-end close process to drive efficiency and accuracy
- Coordinate and manage the preparation of foreign audit and tax returns, ensuring timely and accurate submissions and responses to external auditors and tax authorities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent qualification preferred.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, including foreign currency accounting and consolidation principles.
- Experience with franchising business models is a plus
- Proficiency with ERP systems and accounting software; experience implementing financial systems is highly desirable
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skill
- Ability to work cross-functionally and across time zones
