We have an exciting opportunity for a  Husbandry Care Trainer to join our ARC Research Services team. The Husbandry Care Trainer will be the primary trainer for husbandry.  This position will conduct job training for ARC husbandry and cage wash staff. This training will include new hire onboarding, job training, just-in-time training, mandatory training, refresher training and cross-training. 

The ARC Research Services unit provides real-time technical advanced in vivo services to push research from concept to publication in record time by removing training and skill barriers for our researchers at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct job training for ARC husbandry and cage wash staff. This training will include new hire onboarding, job training, just-in-time training, mandatory training, refresher training and cross-training.

  • Independently perform non-routine animal husbandry procedures with guidance (e.g., colony care for immune-compromised animals; tumor assessments (study data collection) on rodent species).

  • Maintain and monitor appropriate and accurate documentation for training.

  • Assist in complex projects/studies within own area (e.g., studies involving various toxins, lean operational initiatives).

  • Contribute to development, implementation, and maintenance of SOPs/procedures/systems, as applicable.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.

  • Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum requirement: 4+ years experience in animal care, veterinary facility, or animal husbandry.

  • Significant experience in disinfection, sterilization, sanitation, and environmental microbiological analysis preferred.

  • Significant experience monitoring/recognizing changes in animal health conditions, and identifying deviations from norm preferred.

  • Significant experience operating animal caging and sanitation equipment preferred.

  • Experience in animal handling and restraint preferred.

  • Experience in record maintenance as per defined procedures preferred.

  • Proven performance in earlier role/ comparable role.
