We are an in-office company, and our expectation is that employees primarily work from their Applied Intuition office 5 days a week. However, we also recognize the importance of flexibility and trust our employees to manage their schedules responsibly. This may include occasional remote work, starting the day with morning meetings from home before heading to the office, or leaving earlier when needed to accommodate family commitments. (Note: this is not applicable for EpiSci roles).
About the role
The Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting Lead is responsible for overseeing the financial reporting function, including the timely preparation and issuance of GAAP compliant financial statements to both shareholders and regulators. The role also provides technical accounting guidance on complex transactions, supports financial statement audits, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to maintain the highest reporting and accounting standards. This position will report to the Controller and will be an integral member of the company’s corporate governance function.
At Applied Intuition, you will:
- Ownership of the financial reporting process, including the documentation, preparation, and analysis of GAAP compliant annual and interim financial statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules in both privately held and publicly traded company environments
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to manage the drafting and review of all external financial communications, such as press releases, earnings call scripts, and other supplementary financial information, including those required by regulatory bodies, such as the SEC
- Proactively monitor and assist in implementing the adoption of new accounting and reporting standards
- Assist in representing the organization with external financial auditors; taking active responsibility for the company’s side of the relationship, process and deliverables to meet both internal and external deadlines
- Research, interpret, and document complex accounting issues; providing guidance on such topics as revenue recognition, lease accounting, stock-based compensation, foreign currency transactions, and business combinations/acquisitions
- Actively prepare and present information and recommendations to leadership on complex accounting issues
- Spearhead the implementation and maintenance of internal controls and best practises related to financial reporting and other routine and non-routine accounting close processes
- Ensure complex accounting areas, such as equity transactions and stock-based compensation, are accurately accounted for at the end of each period
- Provide strong leadership to the Reporting and Technical Accounting team, fostering professional development and growth
- Other accounting and reporting ad hoc assignments, as required
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study (e.g. accounting, finance), CPA certification
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in financial reporting in both privately and publicly held company environments
- Technical accounting, public accounting, and SOX compliance roles, including leadership responsibilities
- Working knowledge of US GAAP, FASB, PCAOB, and SEC regulations
- Ability to uplift privately held company financial statements to meet public company standards
- Strong work ethic, communication and interpersonal skills, professionalism, and flexibility; must possess the ability to adapt to a growing and evolving environment in a dynamic industry
- Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment to meet shared goals and deadlines
- Experience with SEC reporting software platforms (Workivia, ActiveDisclosure)
