The Role:

Cerebral is looking for a collaborative, energetic attorney to join its growing legal team with experience advising corporations in employment and labor matters, employee relations,  employment disputes, employment litigation, and data privacy laws. This role is perfect for someone who is agile and able to pivot to different matters. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, you will work closely with business partners across the company, advising on employment legal risks, employee relations strategies, and other issues related to employment law. Furthermore, you will partner with business partners and Compliance in evaluating state and federal privacy laws and regulations. You will help us to build scalable tools and processes to support a fast-growing telemedicine business. You will coordinate and collaborate with internal stakeholder organizations as well as interface with senior leadership and a broad workforce. You will operate as a part of a best-in-class legal team to provide practical and productive legal advice to our business partners and executives, and have fun while doing it. Who you are:

• Juris Doctorate from a leading law school and bar admission in good standing
• At least 7+ years of relevant legal employment experience; prior in-house experience required
  • Multi-state employment experience, including California, preferred
  • Experience with wide range of employment and labor substantive areas, including workforce classification, PEO engagement, recruiting, hiring, leaves, performance management, investigations, accommodations, employment-related compliance (including wage, hour, and overtime), benefits, compensation, employee relations, restrictive covenants, discipline, and terminations; experience with piece-rate / piece-work employees a plus  
  • Experience with employment litigation, including California PAGA claims, and administrative agency matters
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating employment and independent contractor agreements
• Preference will be given to candidates who also have at least 3+ years of relevant  data privacy experience 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. data privacy laws and regulations applicable to the telehealth industry, such as the HIPAA Privacy and Security rules, CCPA, CPRA, VCDPA, CPA and other state data privacy laws
  • Experience driving, implementing and supporting privacy compliance policies and programs
• Healthcare experience strongly preferred, and experience with technology or direct-to-consumer startups a plu
