Job Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of and lead research efforts in gas chromatography and hyphenated techniques involving gas chromatography to support business needs, generate fundamental knowledge, and support new product development
  • Solve analytical challenges by communicating and interacting with a broad range of stakeholders from R&D, technical marketing, and process chemistry through technical reports, one-on-one conversations, and presentations
  • Generate, organize, interpret, and report chromatographic data in support of technical projects and analytical service requests
  • Develop, qualify, and validate new methods and transfer methods from other WACKER sites
  • Maintain familiarity with current literature and advances in gas chromatography and related fields
  • Help develop the technical capabilities of the chromatography group to meet current and future business needs and to keep state-of-the-art chromatographic capabilities, including maintenance and procurement of instrumentation
  • Initiate and conduct continuous improvement initiatives to improve the quality of service and enhance the contribution of the chromatography team
  • Collaborate with WACKER's global analytical organization to further enhance separation science capabilities
  • Actively participate in WACKER safety programs, ensure compliance with safety procedures, and maintain good housekeeping
  • Mentor and help to develop less experienced technical personnel

 

Job Qualifications

  • Education: B.S. in chemistry or related disciplines required, M.S. preferred
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant industrial work experience is required
  • Experience mentoring colleagues in an industrial setting for at least 2 years is preferred
  • Proven expertise in field supported by technical publications and presentations
  • Expertise in development and validation of gas chromatographic and hyphenated methods for analysis of small organic molecules, inorganics, and polymers
  • Experience in IT and computer networking is a plus
  • Considerable knowledge of laboratory safety policies and practices
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work effectively on a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of silicone chemistry preferred but not required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required
  • Ability to creatively problem solve and lead investigations is required
