Harbor’s Edge is a premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located alongside the beautiful harbor in Norfolk, Virginia. Our community consists of 300 Independent Living Residential Units, a 33-bed (Medicare/private) Skilled Nursing Healthcare Unit, a 40-bed Assisted Living Unit, and 34-bed Memory Support Unit.

We are seeking a highly qualified, full-time Director of Foundation at Harbor’s Edge to join our team to assist in delivering excellent care for our residents. The ideal candidates in this salaried/exempt position will have senior living experience (e.g., long-term care, assisted living, memory support), and a passion for working with an elderly population. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position is responsible to direct and manage all aspects of operations, strategic planning and growth of the Harbor’s Edge Foundation.
Through successful communication, organizing, facilitating fund raising campaigns and activities, and grant management, this position is responsible to obtain appropriate support from the local community, public and private foundations, and other sources which directly align with the mission of the Foundation and the vision of Harbor's Edge. Responsible to ensure effective and efficient fulfillment of plans and actions which are adopted by the Foundation's Board of Directors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as primary staff to the Foundation Board of Directors and ex-officio to all committees of the Foundation. Make regular reports to the Board monthly meetings. Meet regularly with the Board President and advise the President and Executive Committee on organizational and management issues.
- Evaluate the capacity and effectiveness of management systems, procedures, policies, and communication processes, ensuring all are current and function at optimal levels. Ensure the Foundation complies with all applicable laws and regulations, including IRS compliance and reporting requirements for non-profit organizations.
- Strategic Planning and Mission Alignment: Work in tandem with the Board to develop and implement long-term strategic plans, annual objectives and Board education and development to accomplish goals for the Foundation, ensuring alignment with Harbor’s Edge’s mission and values.
- Draft annual work plans to be approved by the Board. Sets goals, objectives and priorities for work to be performed, with regular review of priorities. Identify appropriate needs for the Foundation and seek resources for support.
- Evaluate performance of Foundation relative to established goals, implement change for continual improvement of services provided. Ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements.
- Fundraising and Development: Lead fundraising efforts to identify and cultivate potential donors, manage fundraising campaigns, and develop grant proposals. Plan, direct, and facilitate fund raising activities for annual support, memorial gifts, special projects, endowments, capital campaigns, planned giving, bequests, trusts, annuities, and life insurance gifts.
- Initiate appropriate strategies to approach diverse local individuals, service clubs, organizations, businesses, and corporations for charitable support. Evaluate results and plan improvement strategies as needed.
- Grant Management: Oversee the grantmaking process including monitor availability of grants from federal and state governments and private foundations, and due diligence. Review grant writing proposals and grant applications, presenting them to funding sources.
- Financial Oversight: Manage the Foundation’s budget, monitor financial performance, and ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.
- Relationship Building: Establish and maintain strong relationships with Foundation Board members, donors, potential donors, similar state and regional institutions and organizations, business, professional and educational leaders, service organizations, Chamber of Commerce, legislators, media representatives, civic groups, external stakeholders, and the general public. Work to involve new and diverse constituency groups.
