Position Details:

The Designer of Workplace Interiors is a team member of the Space Management - Strategy and Planning team.

As the Designer of Workplace Interiors, you will report to the Manager of Facility & Design Standards.

The Designer communicates directly with department leadership to develop interior design space assignments and project development. Responsibilities include creating project programming, outlining the space requirements to support business goals while maintaining standardization across the real estate portfolio. The Designer creates space concepts that support changing business environments improving space use. The Designer of Workplace Interiors also supports Real Estate Project Managers with managing complex projects. 

Specialty areas of expertise and skills of a Designer to be successful in the design execution of the Grainger portfolio are change management, design thinking, space management, specialized (software facilities management systems), and infographics of Real Estate metrics.

You Will:

  • Develop creative design concepts and space plans that fulfill requirements and conform to applicable building codes and ADA requirements.
  • Ensure spaces meet requirements, align with budgets and schedules.
  • Use Grainger tools to manage and execute project plans along with purchases of furniture, furnishings, and equipment for the projects.
  • Lead vendor selection - Develop Bid Specifications for furniture RFP projects, reducing potential vendor RFIs.
  • Use Grainger's facilities space management software system to maintain and report metrics of space to department leadership.
  • Support larger team group moves, assuring all teams and team members are accounted for and included in space use.
  • Manage daily operational aspects of all space, furniture, and inventory.
  • Gather field dimensions of project area and prepare accurate base drawings.
  • Manage design communications among team members, leadership and external consultants
  • Ensure that all project documentation and the AutoCAD Furniture plans for all Grainger facilities are kept current

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree in architecture, Interior Design or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in related field
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Applications, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS Excel, AutoCAD, and Blue Beam
  • Worked and communicated with all levels of management.
  • Dealt with multiple projects at different phases.
  • Space planning experience with a holistic view of project intent and overall corporate goals
  • The ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
