About the role

About the Job:

Offensive Security is looking for a results-oriented Content Developer; System Administration and Infrastructure to join our international team.

This individual will be responsible for writing, developing and refreshing Offsec’s online course content on topics related to Secure system configuration and system administration. They will work as part of a team of content developers and collaborate with editors to create written material, screenshots, and hands-on exercises covering a variety of topics in this area. The Content Developer is also responsible for building labs - virtual environments where learners can practice the skills they’ve learned in a realistic environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The primary duty is content writing, including designing, drafting topic outlines, and generating the text and screenshots to accompany the learning materials.
  • In addition, some development may be required. This includes researching and discovering case studies and writing necessary code used to teach the content.
  • Responsible for the design and implementation of hands-on exercises that test students based on written content.
  • Since Offensive Security training is hands-on, the duties of the position also include the creation of virtual machines supporting the content.
  • Additional duties include technical assistance to colleagues when needed.
  • As the Content Developer, you are a spokesperson for the courses and materials you are writing.

Required Qualifications:

  • You have 5 years in a professional role that included as a core responsibility System Administration and threat mitigation through system hardening. Managing a team with this responsibility will also count.
  • You both recognize and have experience weighing the potential negative business impact of what may otherwise be a very effective defensive solution.
  • You feel very comfortable in an AD enterprise environment, including working with server side applications like Exchange, SCCM and MSSQL.
  • You are competent in programming languages like PowerShell, C# or Python.

Note that with some other items that follow, we may be able to train you as needed. However, if you are not currently in possession of ALL of the requirements listed above, you should not reasonably expect to be successful in this role.

It will also be helpful if…

  • You are keenly interested in creating training materials–ready to hand off a wealth of knowledge to the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.
  • You’re very comfortable with English (not necessarily perfect) and with writing and communicating complex, technical ideas in English. You can be precise with your language when you need to be.
  • You have a strong desire to not just get things done, but get them right.
  • You are a life-long learner and are genuinely curious, looking for new things to learn and new ways to grow.
  • You can work well and can communicate well with a multi-cultural, extremely diverse international team.
  • You can work on your own with little to no supervision (experience in remote work is a plus).

And finally, the following items are not required, but are nice to have…

  • You are familiar with Offensive Security course materials or carry an Offsec Certification - even if that experience was some time ago.
  • You are able to articulate either your own teaching philosophy or, if you have experienced Offsec’s course material, you have a sense of our teaching philosophy.
  • You are not only fully comfortable with English, but have demonstrated strong writing skills and are capable of solving complex or abstract syntax or grammar problems.
  • You are familiar with modern Instructional Design methods, tools, and common practices.
  • You have experience as a technical trainer or have experience creating teaching materials, especially in an asynchronous context.
