Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Department of Teaching and Learning (TLRN) at Montclair State University invites applications for a non-tenure-track teaching position in the Alternate Route (AR) Teacher Education program, with a focus on adult learners and non-traditional teacher candidates. This position will support the rapid growth and ongoing innovation of TLRN’s Alternate Route programs, which provide critical pathways into the teaching profession for career changers and individuals from diverse backgrounds.

We seek a practitioner-scholar committed to excellence in teacher preparation, equity in education, and advancing research on alternative certification, adult learning, and workforce diversity.  The University is dedicated to the success of its teaching faculty through opportunities for promotion and professional development, supporting long-term success and flourishing at the University. 

The position is a two-year, ten-month, non-tenure-track (NTT) appointment, with eligibility for reappointment based on established NTT procedures.

Teaching and Curriculum Implementation:

  • Deliver high-quality instruction across all teacher education programs, ensuring a balance of theoretical knowledge and practical application.

  • Develop course content and assessments. 

Program Development and Quality Assurance:

  • Refine and update the curriculum to support continuous improvement and align with evolving best practices in teacher education, including for non-traditional and career-changing students.

  • Support the department in enhancing school-university partnerships.

  • Collaborate with academic leadership to ensure the program meets institutional standards for excellence.

  • Provide support with accreditation.

Student Support and Mentorship:

  • Provide individualized mentoring to support students' professional growth and mastery of teacher education concepts.

  • Offer personalized insights and real-world expertise to enhance students' practical learning experiences.

Outreach and Growth:

  • Help the department identify strategies to attract prospective students.

  • Build partnerships with school districts and educational organizations to promote the program and expand enrollment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Earned doctorate in Alternate Route Education, Teacher Education, Adult Education, or a closely related field. Demonstrated knowledge of current trends and best practices in alternative certification, adult learning, and teacher recruitment. Successful experience working in K-12 schools and experience teaching at the higher education level. Commitment to mentoring and supporting students in their academic and professional trajectories. Experience in program development and partnership building. Record of success teaching students from varied backgrounds and experiences; minimum three years of teaching experience.
