About the role
Under general supervision oversee the operation, repair and maintenance of operating equipment; serve as the in-house plant operator; respond to and make minor and emergency repairs to all BPHC related equipment, power failures, water and steam line breaks, and all associated electrical components.
Duties:
- Monitor all operating equipment related computers and be able to respond to problems via computer.
- Lubricate machinery and equipment as assigned.
- Provide necessary preventative maintenance.
- Maintain and repair BPHC equipment i.e. air compressors, refrigeration systems, air conditioning systems, heating systems, low pressure lines, condensate pumps, thermostats, air and steam pressure regulators and any associated equipment.
- Assist in the startup and shutdown of boilers and equipment as directed.
- Monitor, operate and regulate the steam system that produces heat and hot water.
- Must observe and follow all safety rules and regulations including, but not limited to Lockout/Tagout, confined space entry etc., as well as be familiar with chemical safety and material data sheets.
- Monitor, operate and regulate pressure and water level in boilers as well as checking feed pumps, fuel oil pumps, expansion tanks, clean and prepare boilers for annual insurance inspection.
- Repair leaks in steam, oil and return lines; packing pumps, change gaskets, repair regulating equipment, replace traps, repair cooling systems, packing machinery and replace valves.
- Record building HVAC air handler and fan coil unit temperatures on daily log sheets.
- Monitor all building HVAC systems via computer-based programs and adjust as necessary.
- Participate in educational training and safety programs as required.
- Considered essential personnel and on-call 24/7
- Perform other duties as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent trades school certification, GED equivalent or combination of education and experience.
- Valid MA driver's license and daily access to a working vehicle required.
- Minimum 6 months experience in a power plant health care facility.
- Must possess ability to understand and execute written and oral instructions.
- Knowledge of computer-based building HVAC control systems preferred. Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team and a diverse group of people required.
- Must be capable of utilizing all power plant related tools and equipment as well as computer related systems.
- Work in support of other trades as needed.
- Must be able to safely lift and carry up to fifty pounds. Climb, stoop, and work in confined spaces
- Must be able to bend, walk, stand, stoop, climb stairs and ladders and safely move materials and/or equipment.
- Must possess ability to work in warm cramped and confined spaces.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with a diverse team
