POSITION: Collections Deputy
DEPARTMENT: Clerk
WORK SCHEDULE: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., M-F
STATUS: Full-time
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
HOURLY RATE: $26.9583 per hour

Incumbent serves as Collections Deputy for the Clerk, responsible for processing probation, restitution judgment payments, new case filings, and venue cases, serving as primary backup to bookkeeper, and assisting the public.
DUTIES:
Receives and processes probation, restitution, child support, and judgment payments balancing daily, printing related reports, and printing/mailing restitution and judgment checks.
Serves as primary backup to Bookkeeper in his/her absence of as needed, such as posting/balancing receipts, printing reports, preparing/making bank deposits, and printing trust checks as ordered by Court.
Processes judgments for civil, juvenile, and criminal cases, verifying orders containing judgments, entering in computer according to state statutes, releasing judgments as ordered by Court, establishing restitution and judgement accounts on computer, and verifying balances on final judgment payments by contacting attorney or plaintiff for interest due, and mailing release of judgment notices when paid in full.
Processes incoming and outgoing venue court cases including calculating costs, preparing voucher forms and forwarding to Auditor according to statutory guidelines.
Processes marriage licenses including verifying required documentation, completing forms, and collecting proper fees.
Enters new tax warrants and releases on computer, and collects/enters fees.
Answers telephone and greets office visitors, providing information and assistance as requested, taking messages, or transferring/directing to appropriate individual or department.
Processes 1099’s and W-9 information from attorneys on yearly basis.
Periodically provides assistance in Election Department as assigned.
Performs related duties as assigned.
I. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
High school diploma or GED. Ability to successfully complete computer software training within time specified by department.
Working knowledge of standard office policies and practices, legal terminology, and relevant state guidelines, and ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated tasks.
Ability to make relevant arithmetic calculations in accurately collecting, recording, and balancing daily receipts.
Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, attorneys, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to type with speed and accuracy, and properly operate a variety of standard office equipment, including computer, printer, copier, telephone, fax machine, postage meter, paper shredder, check and receipt printers.
Ability to work on several tasks at the same time, often under time pressure, and complete assignments effectively amidst frequent distractions and interruptions.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions/directions, and appropriately respond to constructive criticism.
