Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide advising and academic support for freshmen, transfer, and readmitted students across multiple campuses, including Main, Online, and South, to promote successful degree completion. Responsibilities include assessing each student's stage of development, fostering their academic growth by connecting them with appropriate resources and support services, academic schedules, evaluating transfer and military credit for application toward degree requirements, and helping students establish realistic and attainable academic goals.
  • Collaborate with Student Services team on enrollment, career and student engagement, retention, and other initiatives in support of successful degree completion.
  • Uses University systems with proficiency to maintain accurate student files, records, notes to track and review student progression.
  • Aligns with other University professionals and Student Services staff to stay up to date on advising best practices, policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure student success.
  • Attends campus wide advising meetings, participate in institution wide advising initiatives (orientation, outreach, etc).
  • Shadow experienced advisors to develop skills.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General knowledge of principles, theories and concepts regarding student advising, student development and career planning principles.
  • Knowledge of FERPA regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem solving an critical thinking.
  • Proficiency in student information systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various groups and individuals.
  • Ability to identify needs of students and recommend student resources based on student needs.
  • Ability to build rapport with students.
  • Ability to evaluate academic progress and identify barriers to success.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
