Function/Duties of Position

Primary responsibility is supporting the Assistant Dean of Portland Undergraduate Programs to facilitate the UG Program faculty, staff and ensure students are attaining the program outcomes. Specific activities and responsibilities are based on rank. Teaching activities may include covering teaching positions vacant while faculty are being hired, potential to teach the OHSU IPE course or a re-entry course. Faculty members in the clinical series are also expected to participate in service to the school. This position reports to the Assistant Dean for  Portland Undergraduate Programs.

 

Key responsibilities:  To assure effective delivery of undergraduate programs of study for the Portland campus

  • Work in partnership with Assistant Dean to manage day-to-day operations of the programs of study.
  • Collaborate with leadership team on implementation of program evaluation and improvement.
    • Track key data (student numbers; course evaluations; NCLEX pass rate; student achievement of Student Learning Outcomes, etc.) with assistance from administrative staff.
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Dean, participates in developing plans for program improvement.
  • Curriculum
    • Monitor course quality and evaluations each term. Collaborates with Assistant Dean, SON Undergraduate Council, and the faculty involved to resolve problems in courses that do not meet the quality standards.  
    • Acts as ex officio and coordinates with all Portland UG Workgroups to assure that communication and collaboration happens between administration and the committees.
    • Works with Assistant Dean to assure that the Portland Undergraduate programs are represented on the School of Nursing Undergraduate Council. Facilitates populating Portland Undergraduate committees as openings arise.
  • Faculty Supervision and Faculty Development
    • Supervises clinical faculty
    • Collaborate with the leadership team (Assistant Dean, clinical placement coordinators, Education Manager) in making faculty assignments.
    • In collaboration with the Assistant Dean, performs annual evaluations for faculty & staff.
    • Functions as a resource to faculty, supports on-boarding of new faculty and identifying mentors for them.
    • Identifies faculty learning needs and collaborates with leadership team to plan faculty development activities
    • Clinical liaison with clinical partners
  • Participate in strategic and programmatic planning with the leadership team.
    • Attends SON leadership and operations meetings
    • Assists with meeting planning and leadership
      • Monthly faculty meetings
      • Course coordinator meetings
      • Retreat planning
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research):

  • Plans and supervises student lab and/or clinical experiences or practice as need.

 

Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant supported work, presentations, etc.):

  • Participates in scholarly activities based on faculty rank.
    • At the Assistant Professor rank or higher, faculty in the practice mission, demonstrates competence in an area of clinical expertise and engages in inquiry and scholarship that contributes to the practice of clinical practice.
    • At the Assistant Professor rank or higher, faculty in the research mission advance a program of research, prepares grants and seeks funding, and engages with other missions to foster
