Job Description:

GDIT is seeking a Jr. Category Manager to support the Travel program. This role will be responsible for assisting with the oversight and day-to-day management of GDIT’s Corporate Travel department. You will report to the Sr. Category Manager of Travel within Supply Chain and will work closely with the business, programs, and staff of Strategic Sourcing to support travel categories such as internal policies, sourcing of new travel providers, and travel risk/crisis management. Additionally, you will be responsible for assisting Sr. Category Manager with travel supplier relationships (agency, online booking tool, air, car, and hotel), identify synergies within the travel category for improvements in performance, price, value and service, and establishing metrics for measuring use cost and compliance. Finally you will be responsible for educating employees about travel program and correct procedures, as well as collaborating with the Finance/Expense team on travel and expense process improvement, recommendations for policy updates/improvements and/or exception requests. This position requires strong research skills; high interest in continued learnings; being well organized, proactive, and able to work without much guidance; and exceptional time management skills.

HOW A JR CATEGORY MANAGER WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

  • Assist Sr. Category Manager with management of the day-to-day corporate travel program
  • Assist with content creation, maintenance and regular updates to Travel Intranet page
  • Assist Sr. Category manager with creating and maintaining robust strategy pipeline
  • Working with TMC to oversee all travel arrangements (air, lodging, rental car etc.) and operations
  • Establish and leverage relationships with travel vendors
  • Manage reporting inclusive of spend plus volume trends along with exception reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Drive continuous improvement of travel category as a whole
  • Work closely with internal departments and customer-facing programs to understand, document and analyze current and forecasted travel program demands
  • Regularly evaluate travel program and adjust strategies as appropriate based on changing market conditions, internal demand, supplier performance, and other factors
  • Ensure travel program and strategies balance the various regulatory requirements imposed upon GDIT Supply Chain by its customers, including the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR); the market strength of GDIT; and the realities in the various markets to maximize value obtained from each supplier. 
  • Solve process, supplier performance and market-disruption problems including developing solutions under tight timeframes.
  • Provide guidance to GDIT employees related to GDIT Travel Policy and Procedures
  • Work with TMC to troubleshoot issues and obstacles
  • Assist with Vendor Issues, Resolution, long-term requests
  • Ensure compliance in all aspects of the travel category

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 4+ additional years of experience in lieu of a degree and 2+ years of related travel industry experience.
  • Experience using Microsoft suite of applications (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of international travel regulations
  • Familiarity of Travel and Expense reporting and processing
  • Customer-oriented approach
  • Ability to work closely across all levels of GDIT to fully understand the specific needs of the travel program
  • Ability to conduct market analyses, model internal demand patterns, conduct price analyses, and total cost of ownership analyses
  • Ability to develop specific sourcing strategies and negotiating approaches to be used by Strategic Sourcing in executing travel category strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with little supervision be proactive in problem prevention and resolution, an able to balance competing demands on one’s time.
