The Student Researcher will work with various team members depending on the nature of the task at hand. The Research Institute aims to provide a quality undergraduate research experience through an innovative and robust research agenda, we explore ways to strategically support student success and to drive further innovation through external publication.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Gains experience in a professional, collaborative environment.
Develops basic research skills applicable to a wide variety of fields.
Contributes to a portfolio of work that is beneficial to students who wish to transfer to four-year institution or to gain full-time employment in higher education or other sectors.
Builds a personal and professional network of higher education colleagues, including faculty, staff, and two- and four-year students.
Other assignments and projects will vary depending on the current and primary research institution functions be presented to the Institute and Student Research Assistant (e.g., Excel for data entry and cleaning, Canva for graphic design, knowledge of APA 7 citation guidelines, Power BI or Tableau to create interactive reports).
All Student Researchers will need basic proficiency in Microsoft Office apps and Teams.

Minimum Requirements
High school diploma plus earned college credits.
Associate-degree-seeking student at Dallas College, baccalaureate-seeking, or masters-seeking student.
Bilingual or multilingual preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Support project development and direction by punctually attending and participating in (mostly online) team meetings.
Conduct basic research tasks under the guidance of Research Institute team members to contribute to key projects on the Spring 2023 research agenda, for example the effects of dual-credit and debt on student outcomes. Specific tasks will be determined by Institute need and student interest. Options include:
Assisting with focus groups (reviewing transcripts, developing questions, speaking with participants, scheduling, sessions, etc.)
Writing/background research support (editing researcher citations in APA 7 style, organizing team Excel files with information on articles/studies for literature reviews, etc.)
Data entry and cleaning data sets for team member analysis
Calculate descriptive statistics.
Learn and support quantitative research methods through such a predictive modeling and other inferential statistics.
Graphic design (utilizing PowerPoint and Canva to help create infographics, reports, and other products that highlight major research findings and follow Dallas College branding guidelines).
