About the role

As a backlot production support staff member, you will support daily operations at the backlot production facility to ensure a safe, efficient environment for students and faculty. You will manage classes, other productions, maintenance, tours, and special events. Responsibilities include training and supervising student workers and performing regular equipment maintenance checks to address issues as they arise. You will collaborate with the backlot production manager at SCAD Film Studios on maintenance, repairs, cleaning, and equipment updates.  

In this position, you will maintain daily documentation and procedural information, issue resolutions, and communicate key information. You will also escalate high-priority concerns to the appropriate personnel, monitor various budgets, and coordinate backup support for the production manager. Additionally, you will support equipment checkout, engineering, and AV technical staff. Among other duties, you will research emerging technologies and develop equipment and facility training materials.  

The ideal candidate demonstrates electrical expertise and is comfortable working with high-power equipment. They are knowledgeable about the backlot’s full range of gear, including cameras, audio, lighting, and grip gear used in digital filmmaking.

Minimum qualifications:   

  • At least one year of relevant experience in film production or a related industry 
  • Professional experience in safety training 
  • Proficiency in computer hardware and software, studio systems, video and audio equipment, and lighting for film and television

Preferred qualifications:   

  • Experience in an educational setting 

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:  

  • Valid driver’s license 

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
