West Oak Lane Charter School is searching for a vibrant, driven, talented and team-oriented administrator to serve in an Assistant Principal role for our K-2 grade band.
Our ideal candidate will be someone who works well with team dynamics, is committed to their own growth and development as an instructional leader, and is dedicated to the development, achievement and overall well-being of students and staff.
The Assistant Principal (AP) is a critical member of the school’s leadership team, responsible for supporting the Principal in achieving the school’s academic vision and instructional goals. The Assistant Principal is responsible for execution and implementation, ensuring alignment with the Principal’s vision and directives. The role requires strong collaboration, clear communication, and commitment to teamwork and instructional excellence.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assistant Principals are responsible for ensuring that instructional best practices are consistently implemented across classrooms, with a primary focus on pedagogy, instructional effectiveness, and teacher development rather than programmatic decisions. Grade-band-specific responsibilities vary based on developmental and instructional needs.
- The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with the leadership team, and the Principal to identify strengths, gaps, and needs within their grade bands. Assistant Principals must be highly visible in classrooms daily, providing real-time feedback to teachers, gathering instructional data, and reporting findings to the Principal and Directors to inform professional development and instructional strategies.
- The Assistant Principal plays a vital role in the school’s efforts to sustain a productive school culture/climate that celebrates students and staff, and one that fosters an environment grounded in strong morals and academic excellence. The primary charge for this position is to grow and inspire teachers, staff and students.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree; ideally in education administration.
- Pennsylvania teaching and principal certifications.
- 5 plus years of teaching experience in a K-8 school environment, ideally within an urban setting.
- School leadership experience at the teacher or administrative level.
