Overview:
Capital One is seeking a culture-led, results-driven, and strategic Director of Corporate Development. As a Director, you will partner with various Capital One lines of business to define and execute their strategies for acquisitions and strategic partnerships for the company.
The Corporate Development Team is responsible for acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic partnerships across our major lines business, including Consumer Card, Business Cards and Payments, Retail Bank, Auto, Commercial, and Network. As Capital One has evolved to serve our customers needs we have also invested heavily to support enterprise priorities including Travel, Shopping, and Enterprise Technology and Software Services.
As a Director on the Corporate Development team at Capital One, you will apply your strategic and analytical skills to major company initiatives. You’ll team with world-class professionals across our lines of business to develop growth strategies, identify opportunities, and execute transactions. This includes managing the entire transaction lifecycle, including market research, sourcing, diligence, negotiation, approval, and execution.
The ideal candidate demonstrates curiosity and an interest in integrated problem solving where there is no clearly defined path to success. The Director will be adept at managing and influencing large cross-functional internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating strong communication, problem solving, and technical skills.
Responsibilities:
Strategy: Develop a deep understanding of Capital One lines of business and strategy and effectively collaborate with the lines of business to identify and develop areas of investment opportunity through acquisitions and strategic partnerships that align to our strategic objectives
Market Coverage: Understand and monitor market trends and verticals where Capital One currently operates or sees growth opportunities, including but not limited to: Consumer and Small Business financial services, Payments (consumer & B2B), Travel, Dining, E-Commerce and related merchant services, Shopping, and Enterprise and core banking technology
External Relationship Management: Develop and build relationships with companies across the financial services and technology markets relevant to Capital One’s existing businesses and enterprise growth strategy, including investment bankers and consultants with domain expertise
Sourcing and Business Case Development: Identify new acquisition and partnership opportunities that align with Capital One’s strategic objectives and build the business case in partnership with key stakeholders
Financial Analysis: Directing the team to create and maintain financial models, applying both equity and cash flow modeling approaches, for acquisitions, partnerships, or divestitures
Transaction Execution: Manage financial and strategic analyses and execution of potential acquisition, strategic partnership, and equity investment transactions. Manage all transaction phases, including negotiation, structuring, due diligence, contracting and integration planning
Cross-Functional Problem Solving & Results Focus: Ability to engage with and lead cross-functional teams and external counterparties to drive an integrated perspective to the analysis and efficient execution of transactions and other large scale deliverables. Internal areas will include corporate executives, business lines, corporate strategy, finance, legal, and other areas
Communication: Develop and deliver executive presentations grounded in information based strategy
People Leadership: Build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team, as well as business partners across the enterprise. Ability to foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold business partners accountable, and be able to consistently deliver results
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or another quantitative discipline (Math, Economics, Statistics, Science, Engineering) or military experience
At least 6 years of experience in an analytical role
At least 3 years of experience in people management
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Finance
5+ years of acquisition and strategic partnership deal execution experience
3+ years of Financial Services, Financi
