Job Description Summary

The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach is responsible for creating and delivering all aspects of physical programming for assigned sports teams, while also contributing as a team member of the Sports Performance Department. Our goal is to positively impact Penn student-athletes and help them reach their highest potential mentally and physically, reduce risk of injury, and create an unrivaled experience. All staff members will contribute to this goal by educating, inspiring, empowering, and growing their respective teams and student-athletes.

The position requires both a basic degree of related knowledge and experience, plus the range to think creativity and act collaboratively. A successful individual will have strong interpersonal skills, be highly organized, and operate as a great teammate. Integral personal traits are humility, awareness, positivity, and a growth mindset.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement holistic training program that meets the needs of the coach, team, and individual.
  • Instruct the team, group, or individual student-athletes in the optimal execution of exercises aiming to obtain the desired results, as well as ensure the health and safety of every student-athlete.
  • Create and maintain positive relationships with all campus partners. Communicate and collaborate regularly with sport coaches, student-athletes, athletic trainers, Head Sports Dietitian, Head of Athletics Mental Health Servies, applied sports science partners, and the Director of Strength and Conditioning to educate on best practices for healthy and sustainable performance enhancement and assure that the most beneficial results of the program are being realized.
  • Select key performance indicators that help assess, monitor, guide, and motivate training. Organize and administer assessment procedures and protocols, as part of our applied sports science program, to collect valid and reliable data that drive better conversations with, and inform decision making for, the student-athletes and staff.
  • Create, manage, and maintain a positive environment. Implement and enforce policies and procedures governing the use of the weight room by all users. Share in the responsibilities of coverage and care of weight room facilities. Help with additional team coverage when needed.
  • Commit to continuous growth as a Sports Performance teammate and Strength and Conditioning practitioner.
  • Serve as an ambassador of the Sports Performance program to all potential student-athletes, the campus community, alumni, friends, and family.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the sport coaching staff(s) and Director of Strength and Conditioning.
