The Undergraduate Admission Counselor is an entry-level position responsible for the recruitment and enrollment of the new student freshman and transfer undergraduate population by educating prospective students, families and high schools counselors about Santa Clara University and the admission process. This position will be part of the overall Enrollment Management and Undergraduate Admission team focused on strategic community outreach efforts.

The Undergraduate Admission Counselor assists in attracting, evaluating and enrolling an academically strong, culturally diverse and socially conscious undergraduate student population in alignment with the undergraduate enrollment mission and goals of Santa Clara University. The Admission Counselor will represent SCU to the public including prospective students, high school and transfer counselors, alumni and community organizations. This position requires comfort and ability to travel, work nights and weekends when needed, comfort with ambiguity, flexibility with last-minute work adjustments, and ability to work in a virtual environment at times. Throughout the admission cycle work can extend into nights and weekends, and include covering office duties and responsibilities as assigned. Entry level counselors are expected to give frequent information sessions and be comfortable with last minute calendar adjustments for the support of office operations as needed. This is a non-exempt, 12-month position reporting to the Assistant Director of Outreach and Community Engagement.
I. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
A. With direction from the Assistant Director, the Undergraduate Admission Counselor plans and implements recruitment events in designated geographic areas; plans and conducts school visits; and maintains communication and relations with interested students and families, high school officials, local nonprofits, community-based organizations, and other programs and initiatives aligned with the overall mission and vision of the institution and outreach goals.
B. Leads information sessions and meetings with prospective students and families (virtual and in-person).
C. Reviews applications by territory and as assigned. Makes admission recommendations as authorized. Application evaluation will also include transfer , international applicants, and other non-traditional college applicants.
D. Supports projects of the Undergraduate Admission office including marquee events such as Open House, Preview Days, Unity and Transfer Admit Day, other virtual or on-and off-campus programs, and collaborates with University departments and partners.
E. Execute marketing initiatives that work within territory or other special assigned projects. Examples can be, but not limited to, translated materials, mini virtual bilingual videos, creative marketing ideas and any other collateral materials that can be leveraged in promoting and yielding top quality candidates to the university.
II. Specific Duties:
A. Serves as University Representative.
● Responsible for planning and executing recruiting efforts in person and virtually.
● Represents SCU on- and off-campus, in-person and virtually, to the public including prospective students, high school counselors, alumni and community organizations.
● Conducts presentations to groups and campus visitors.
● Counsels students, parents and high school counselors regarding admission and financial aid processes, policies and procedures.
● Participates in call, email and written campaigns supporting students through the admission and enrollment/matriculation process.
● Supports daily inquiries by email, phone, virtual or in-person.
● Responds to letter, telephone and e-mail inquiries regarding admission and enrollment/matriculation.
● Represents SCU in person or virtually at college fairs, college nights, parent programs, community meetings, etc. Program commitments will require some early morning, evening and weekend work.
● May coordinate territory events and receptions including room reservations, food and catering orders, and other contracted services under the supervision of a supervisor.
