About the role

Project Controls Coordinator 

Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking a Project Controls Coordinator (Controls I) to work within the Systems and Planning Division Controls Team.   In this job, you will perform project, program, and portfolio control assignments, ensure control activities such as project administration, change management, estimating, cost management and schedule management are executed in a timely fashion and in accordance with company standards and contractual requirements.

Moreover, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with the planning, engineering, project management, accounting, controls and finance teams while you develop and implement project controls and procedures with the over-all goal of achieving project objectives. Key areas of Focus:

  • Develops and implements project controls and monitoring procedures to ensure the achievement of project scope, schedule and cost objectives 
  • Collaborates with planning, engineering, project management, accounting, controls and finance teams regarding cost, schedule, and documentation control matters
  • Ensures that cost budgets, revised cost budgets, and cost forecasts meet company requirements
  • Collects, builds, and analyzes project/program cost and schedule data to establish baseline of information 
  • Assemble and compile schedule and cost data, input into project control database(s) / tools, analyze, and provide output information
  • Configure processes and workflows in a Project Management Software as a Service (SaaS) solution
  • Manage and report on schedule and budget activities via a PM SaaS tool
  • Understand fundamentals of a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) and assist in the creation of WBS's for projects 
  • Understand work management processes, including planning, scheduling, processing of work orders, and supply chain management
  • Develop and maintain periodic (daily, weekly, monthly, annual, and intermittent) status reports 
  • Provide support to project financial reporting and invoice/billing processes
  • Assist in field assignments such as quantity tracking and retrieving project data 
  • Develop and administer documentation and records management processes that integrate with Planning, Delivery, and Operations
  • Train personnel on Work Management, Delivery processes, and associated controls tools

 

Who you are...

  • Bachelors in Cost Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Finance, or Accounting; or related field is preferred
  • Demonstrated financial analysis and budgeting skills, supported by solid experience in construction and project management
  • Proficiency with PM SaaS tools and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Strong skills in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to manage and report on schedule and budget activities through a PM SaaS tool
  • Optional but beneficial: PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) or AACEi cost/schedule‑related certifications

 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally and/or small amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met
  • Positions in this class typically require talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions within an office working environment
