Job Title:  Faculty in Health / Physical Education (Bard High School Early College Baltimore)

Position Description

Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Baltimore, a partnership between Bard College and the Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) in Baltimore, Maryland, invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Health, with a start date of August 2024.

Faculy members In Health plan and implement an instructional program in Health and provide related educational services for high-school age early college students. They manage student behavior, assesses and evaluates student achievement, and modify instructional activities as required; they carry out a variety of student monitoring and supports activities.  Additional responsibilities included the development, adapting, modification, and individualization of educational materials, resources, techniques, methods, and strategies to meet the needs of students within the City Schools curriculum framework. You will plan and implement appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities, including determination of the appropriate type and level or materials, utilizing a variety of instructional materials and available multimedia and computer technology to enhance learning. This includes assessing student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes.

Specializations in a Health-related fields such as physical education and mental health are welcome.  An interest in public health and a commitment to solving health and social disparities on practical level by working with and teaching high school age-students is desirable.  The position requires educators who are passionate about their fields of study and committed to advancing equity through rigorous curricula made accessible to students with varied backgrounds.

About the Bard Early Colleges (BECs)

The Bard Early Colleges (BECs) enable intellectually curious students to complete a high school diploma and an Associate of Arts degree from Bard College within four years of study. The academic program emphasizes small classes and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body.

Start Date: August 2024

Compensation: $58,800-$102,000

Location: 2801 N. Dukeland Street, Baltimore, MD 21216

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and a secondary certification in Health is required.  
  • A dedication to teaching is required
  • The ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs is required
  • The ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned is required
  • An interest in working with high school age students who are also completing a college-level course of study
  • We are seeking candidates with a strong commitment to equity and social justice
  • Candidates must understand cultural difference and purposefully help to uplift ideas from underrepresented groups to improve the equity balance in education
  • A commitment to reducing and an openness to learning about potential barriers to inclusion are needed
