The Role

We are seeking an exceptional Senior Backend Engineer to be a cornerstone of our technical team. You will be responsible for designing, building, and scaling the complex backend infrastructure that powers the entire user and AI companion experience. This is a unique opportunity to tackle fascinating engineering challenges at the intersection of large-scale systems, real-time interaction, and cutting-edge artificial intelligence. You will be instrumental in creating a seamless, reliable, and magical experience for our users as they build relationships with their AI companions.

What You'll Do

• Architect & Build: Design, develop, and deploy robust, scalable, and low-latency backend services and APIs that drive our platform.

• AI Integration: Collaborate closely with our AI/ML engineers to seamlessly integrate, deploy, and manage large language models (LLMs) and other sophisticated AI systems.

• Scalability & Performance: Engineer our systems to handle millions of concurrent, stateful interactions, ensuring a responsive and real-time experience for our users.

• Data Integrity & Security: Take ownership of our database architecture (SQL and NoSQL) to manage complex data for both users and AI characters. Implement rigorous security and privacy measures to protect sensitive user data, which is our highest priority.

• System Optimization: Continuously monitor, debug, and optimize application performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks in our production environment.

• Lead & Mentor: Act as a technical leader within the team, championing best practices in coding, system design, and security. Mentor other engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and innovation.

Qualifications

Who You Are

• Experienced Engineer: You have 5+ years of professional backend development experience, with a proven track record of building and shipping complex, large-scale products.

• AI-Savvy: You have direct experience working on AI-powered applications. You understand the unique infrastructure challenges involved in deploying and serving machine learning models in a production environment.

• Technically Proficient:

  • Deep expertise in Python is mandatory. Experience with other backend languages like Node.js is a plus.

  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).

  • Deep knowledge of database technologies, including relational (e.g., PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Redis) databases.

  • Strong background in designing and building scalable systems using microservices architectures.

  • Proficiency with containerization technologies (Docker) is required.
