Job Summary:

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) reports to the Project Manager (PM) within the Occupational Health Services (OHS) vertical. The APRN / PA provides medical services at the on-site Occupational Health Clinic (OHC) at Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC). The clinic serves Federal and commercially contracted employees, temporary visitors, and Foreign Animal Disease Diagnostician (FADD) school students. The APRN / PA is responsible for performing history and physical medical examination and the interpretation of results in accordance with contractual and regulatory guidelines. Medical services include occupational medical surveillance programs (e.g. asbestos, silica, hearing conservation and other medical clearances), urine drug collection, review of medical history / medical exams and diagnostic testing, vaccines, respirator fit testing, audiometry, spirometry, etc. This is a casual position that can be scheduled eight to thirty-two hours per month contingent to operational requirements. The APRN /PA is scheduled to report to the PIADC facility as scheduled.

All healthcare services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles, training, scope of practice and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which Acuity International is recognized.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide occupational health services (i.e., assess health history, perform physical examinations, conduct medical consultations, etc.)
• Direct clinical supervision of onsite team.
• Clinical skills include ability to obtain vital signs, specimen collection (phlebotomy / urine), vision screening, audiometric testing, pulmonary function testing, electrocardiogram, and respirator fit testing as needed.
• Administration of vaccines (e.g., influenza, tetanus, hepatitis A & B, etc.) accordance with medical protocols.
• Provide vaccinations and travel medicine consultations for employees traveling to foreign countries on official business.
• Provide medical consultations for “return to work” clearances following occupational health injury, illness, or surgical procedure.
• Conduct work related post-exposure (non-emergency response) assessment, consultation and basic first aid.
• Develop educational seminars and training on topics of general wellness and illness prevention.
• Conduct medical history screening and provide special accommodations as appropriate for Foreign Animal Disease (FAD) school students.
• Provide medical consultation and counseling on smoking cessation and health and wellness programs (e.g., lifestyle modification, nutrition, and weight management).
• Maintain all health records in accordance with privacy laws, medical protocols, and Acuity International and the Department of Homeland (DHS) policies.
• Assist with developing and maintaining policies, procedures, process flows, clinical standing orders, practice protocols, work instructions, and standard operating procedures.
• Ensure quality clinical care in accordance with all legal, compliance, and regulatory requirements set forth by the Federal and State requirements.

• Apply considerable latitude in independent decision-making and judgment.
