Program Overview and Responsibilities
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Voice Switch and Recorder (VS&R) Program Office manages seven different programs that procure and sustain voice switch and recording systems that enable critical, high availability Air Traffic Control (ATC) voice communications within the National Airspace System (NAS). The VS&R Program Office is responsible for acquisition and full life cycle program management of operational ATC Voice Communications Systems (VCSs), which includes development of requirements, procurement of new systems, verification, validation, testing, logistics, implementation, deployment, and sustainment/tech refresh of existing ATC voice communications systems.
Duties:
The Software Engineer will assist the FAA VS&R Program Office team with full stack software development, software QA engineering and software systems engineering activities including requirements, design, development, documentation, integration, test, verification and validation.
Additionally, the Software Engineer will:
- Participate in AGILE requirements reviews, design reviews and development sprints.
- Learn the FAA’s VS&R lab network capabilities, protocols, interfaces, software and hardware.
- Ensure that software and QA projects and documentation are compliant with requirements and client needs.
- Participate in Verification and Validation (V&V) of software system requirements, including traceability, and testability.
- Work in JavaScript, Python, C and other languages.
- Provide software integration.
- Analyze Problem Tracking Reports (PTRs).
Required Qualifications
The candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or related field.
The candidate must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Strong analytical, writing and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences.
- Exceptional attention to detail, well organized, with the ability to understand, de-conflict and prioritize multiple competing activities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects and operate independently
- Proficiency in JavaScript, with some experience with Python and C languages
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and financial software applications

- Ability to effectively initiate action, collaborate with others, plan activities and drive action items to resolution.
- Ability to work in a dynamic team-oriented environment, demonstrate initiative, and function productively in the face of new assignments and the re-prioritization of existing assignments.
