What you'll be doing:
- Achieves customer satisfaction and service standards for all brokers/agents assigned to team and/or self;
- Ensures team meets or exceeds set production/premium goals and departmental guidelines;
- Identifies strength and weaknesses in current procedures and recommend change in procedure, as needed
- Review, analyze, accept, and decline wholesale Excess Casualty in both Construction and General Casualty risks to ensure profitability for Markel.
- Analyze and deploy excess capacity at attachments and premium that uphold Markel's strategy
- Underwrite and select new business that will produce an underwriting profit.
- Manage the existing renewal book and implement corrective measures, as needed, to meet profitability expectations.
- Communicate with regional managers and national wholesale excess casualty product line leaders on individual accounts, current and proposed producers, and make recommendations concerning operations, systems and procedures when appropriate.
- Ensure consistency across the team when communicating with/responding to producers and brokers
- Interprets, explains, and educates on products and forms as needed
- Build and maintain quality relationships with key producers while simultaneously monitoring the entire appointed producer base for profitability, production, competition, and industry trends
- Maintain a high level of customer service
- Facilitate and create trainings as needed.
- Act as a mentor/coach/trainer to junior members of the team.
What we're looking for:
- 10-15+ years of wholesale excess casualty underwriting experience in the Southeast Region of the USA required
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflective of progression of positions of increasing responsibility.
- Strong collaboration skills
- Enjoys working in a team environment
- Experienced in Construction and/or General Casualty
- Established relationships with Wholesale brokers in the SE Region
- Demonstrated marketing and relationship building skills.
- Four year college degree and/or CPCU or similar designation preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Microsoft Office skills to include MS Word and MS Excel.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills.
- Must be a team play
