The Information Technology (IT) Supervisor role has oversight for and performs work as a member of the Infrastructure & Support Services team within the Operations Division.  Generally, this position will attend meetings as a representative of the team they are assigned to and will work closely with the other Supervisors and various members of the department to ensure the team is meeting the needs of the department and City.  This position will plan, coordinate, and evaluate the work performed by the team, and report directly to the respective IT Operations Division Manager.

Infrastructure & Support Services Supervisor

Leads a team of tech professionals including service desk technicians and infrastructure specialists.  This role focuses on improving processes, delivering IT services efficiently, managing team projects, and planning infrastructure maintenance and upgrades. Acts as the team's voice in meetings and collaborates with colleagues to ensure the department meets city-wide needs. Plans, assigns, and evaluates team tasks, reporting directly to the IT Operations Manager.  Performs hands-on technical work as a supervisor, overseeing various city technology infrastructure areas.

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES   (This job description does not intend to list every function of the position.)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This position will supervise staff including assigning/monitoring/managing resources, hiring, performance management, salary administration, career development, and teambuilding. Additionally, this position will perform essential functions as a member of their respective team, to include:

Oversee the administration of the City’s end user computer hardware, operating system and application deployments, network infrastructure, server infrastructure, data backup and recovery, telecommunications, and cloud infrastructure. Additionally, provide direction and manage the team’s responsiveness to incidents, problems, and preventive maintenance.  Also, support the Operations Division goals for continuous improvement by reporting on metrics and trends while providing recommendations for improvement across all areas of responsibility.

ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS

  • Manages activities of team staff and collaborates with the other Supervisors in support of successful business relationship management, project execution, and service delivery.

  • Monitors staff work performance; writes and administers performance evaluations and merit pay.

  • Works with Division Managers and the department Budget Coordinator to prepare budget proposals and manage budget/accounts for each business unit assigned.

  • Prepares training plans for the team and stays abreast of best practices and supporting technologies.

  • Participates in other Information Technology projects, studies, research and development and special projects.

  • Participates in strategic and operational governance processes.

  • Willingness to lead by taking initiative to implement changes in IT operations.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and presentation skills with both technical and non-technical personnel at all levels.

  • Prepares successional, organizational, development and workforce training plans for team and stays abreast of emerging technologies.

  • Must be able to interact with others in a positive manner.

  • Requires regular and prompt attendance.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Supervision Received

  • Work is performed independently under general instructions and guidelines provided by the IT Operations Division Manager and according to established policies.

  • Duties are a mix of coordination, technical analysis, and development/design nature. A frequent level of interaction and communication with Division Manager, other team members and City staff is required on most items.

Leads and Develops Team

  • Collaborates with the IT Operations Division Manager to provide strategic advice and direction.

  • Schedules regular meetings with team members to discuss progress and goals.

  • Provides ongoing coaching and guidance to assigned staff on technical issues.
