This is what you will do:
As Senior Director, R&D Environmental Health and Safety, you will lead the strategies and programs that ensure the health and safety of our employees, contractors and visitors at our R&D locations. Leveraging your diverse experience, you will have the opportunity to support a complex and engaging EHS footprint, including biosafety, industrial hygiene/potent compounds, occupational safety, compliance and permitting and sustainability.
You will partner with senior stakeholders from various departments, effectively driving the execution of EHS strategy, continuous improvement, behavioral and cultural change. As the head of R&D EHS, you will have the opprtunity to lead, mentor, and develop the R&D EHS team based across multiple locations.
Drive the Alexion environmental sustainability improvement programs across carbon, energy and natural resources.
You will be responsible for:
- Ensure execution of tactical EHS objectives to drive workplace injury and illness prevention, increase risk recognition, and reduce environmental liabilities.
- Identify and implement EHS systems & programs aligned to Alexion’s core values that address compliance and drive continuous improvement
- Ensure EHS performance is appropriately represented to the R&D EHS Leadership Team
- Co-ordinate effective relationships with regulatory authorities and maintaining site permits and licences
- Partner with location leaders and engage them to assist in the execution of EHS objectives that foster a culture of continuous improvement related to safety and sustainability
- Work with functional leaders to integrate EHS into the drug discovery and development processes
- Manage the R&D EHS budget
You will need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Environmental Management, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Sciences required.
- 10+ years experience in EHS program management in safety and regulatory compliance in the pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry, including roles with a similar leadership profile and level of responsibility.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement to EHS programs and performance
- Strong biosafety knowledge related to management of EHS risks associated with biohazards including cell and gene therapy, experience in Biological Safety Officer (BSO) role
- Proficiency with chemical hygiene, occupational health, radiological, and animal worker health programs.
- Knowledge & experience of implementing EHS Management Systems.
- Demonstrable project management, organisational and execution skills.
- The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment.
