The Business Unit Manager for Health Ingredients has a pivotal leadership role within the business unit, responsible for strategic direction, commercial growth, operational excellence, and team leadership to ensure the business unit’s sustained success and profitability in a competitive market.
Position Overview
The Business Unit Manager is responsible for leading, developing, and managing the Nutraceutical & Pharmaceutical ingredients business in the United States. This role oversees commercial activities, and strategic activities to ensure profitability, growth, and customer satisfaction within the business unit. The Business Unit Manager will drive the business strategy and collaborate with the Product Market Manager to ensure alignment and satisfaction of key supplier relationships. The Business Unit Manager will act as a liaison with all functional departments involved in delivering seamless customer experience.
What would be your main responsibilities as a Business Unit Manager?:
• Develop and execute the strategic growth plan for the Supplement & Pharmaceutical Ingredients business, in close collaboration with the Business Director of Health Ingredients and the VP Ingredients, aligning with company objectives and market trends.
• Build, maintain, and expand strong relationships with key customers.
• Inspire and guide a dynamic sales team, fostering a culture of excellence to accelerate market share growth and achieve ambitious sales targets
• Deliver on budgeted financial targets, including sales, profitability, and receivables.
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities in collaboration with the group’s leadership team, including new suppliers, products, and applications to enhance the product portfolio.
• Monitor industry trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes to inform business decisions and maintain market leadership.
• Work in collaboration with business service leaders to provide input and suggestions which will lead to operational excellence by optimizing supply chain, inventory management, and cost structures.
• Collaborate with marketing, customer service, operations, and logistics teams to exceed customer expectations and drive business results.
• Oversee the launch of new products in coordination with the sales and product marketing teams.
• Report to senior management on business unit performance, market developments, and strategic initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, quality certifications (e.g., GMP, SQF), and company policies.
• Drive alignment and action on defined strategic priorities, ensuring each team members execute on goals and objectives
• Lead and mentor a team of Sales professionals, providing guidance and support, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability
Qualifications & Experience needed :
• Bachelor’s degree in Science related field, Business Administration, or a related field. A completed MBA or Master’s degree would be a strong asset.
• Minimum of 10-15+ years of industry experience including commercial leadership role within the Nutraceutical and Pharmaceutical Industry, with experience in distribution or B2B sales.
• Proven experience managing a full business unit with proven success in driving revenue, growth and profitability and operational excellence.
• Strong knowledge of Supplement & Pharma ingredients, their applications, and customer base in the United-States
• Experience in managing P&L, budgeting, and delivering on financial targets.
• Experience in developing and executing business strategies with a strong understanding of budgeting, market trends and competitive analysis, strategic planning and execution.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing cross-functional teams; proven experience in coaching and building high-performing teams
