Job Summary

Dominion Energy is looking to fill a supervisor position over the Fiber Engineering and Operations Team.  This supervisory position is responsible for the engineering and day-to-day operations of Dominion Energy’s Fiber Optic Networks in VA and SC. 

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manages the engineering, installation, splicing and testing of new fiber cable and fiber strand paths.
  • Oversees and supports fiber cable maintenance, relocations and emergency restoration efforts.
  • Escalates outages appropriately to upper management and produces root case analysis.
  • Ensure that the fiber projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to Dominion Energy’s quality and safety standards.
  • Responsible for the creation of O&M and capital budget needs and tracks expenses.
  • Makes sound business recommendations to management on hiring, firing, discipline and pay actions of employees.
  • Evaluate the performance of the fiber engineers and splicers and provide them with constructive feedback and recognition.
  • Identifies training and technical knowledge gaps within the team and develops training programs to address.
  • Performs onsite job observations and inspection of work quality to ensure safety protocols and quality controls are being met.
  • Ensure that the fiber engineers and splicers have the required tools, materials, and protective gear to perform their duties safely and efficiently.
  • Coordinate with the business unit partners, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth and effective communication and collaboration.
  • Ensures the documentation and provisioning records of the fiber plant are properly and timely documented in Circuit Vision.
  • Identify and resolve any issues, problems, or conflicts that may arise during fiber projects, and escalate to leadership appropriately.
  • Stay updated on the latest trends, technologies, and innovations in the fiber industry and implement them as appropriate.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

5+ years of demonstrated experience leading people in lead project management roles and/or direct supervision.

  • Directly related experience in the engineering, installation and splicing of fiber optic cable.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, influence, motivate and develop staff in a team environment.
  • Ability to develop and manage a budget, as well as schedule and manage workloads to meet project timelines.
  • Ability to effectively plan and manage multiple activities, resources and time and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to build, collaborate and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strategic leadership and business acumen.
  • Ability to make critical decisions independently and under pressure.
  • Computer knowledge and skills in Microsoft Office, engineering programs (such as: GIS, AutoCAD, SAP, Circuit Vision, etc.)
  • Overnight travel and field site visits are required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education:  Information Systems, Information Technology

Other disciplines may be substituted for the preferred discipline(s).
