PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Salary to be commensurate with experience.
The hiring range for this position is: $22.01 - $27.51 Hourly 

This is a continuous posting being used to fill multiple vacancies. The City of Aurora Water Utility Worker performs manual labor duties and will assist with routine maintenance and repair functions for one of the multiple divisions within the Aurora Water Department. Employees in this position will demonstrate their work by modeling the Core 4 Values of: Customer Service, Professionalism, Integrity, and Respect.
 
The City of Aurora is pleased to offer:

  • The Aurora Water Department will provide all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (besides steel/safety toe boots)

Overview of Position / Department:

The Construction and Repair division is responsible for the repair and maintenance of over 1500 miles of pipeline. Core functions include emergency water and service line repairs, fire hydrant, valve and vault rehabilitation or replacement. Sewer repairs for gravity, force mains and reuse piping including manhole maintenance within the right of way are a duty as well. Water main replacement throughout the summer months and snow removal in the winter months. Overtime is a requirement of the job so the ability to work call back duty must be a high priority and is a condition of this area. Average overtime worked in this section is 250 hours per year.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Loads and unloads tools

  • Repair and replacement activities

  • Perform routine equipment maintenance

  • Assist work crews in the installation, repair, testing and maintenance of water lines, sewer lines, stormwater lines, channels and structures, large water meters, valves, fire hydrants, and other equipment

  • Perform tasks using tools such as hand tools, shovel, jackhammer, and power tools

  • May assist with on-call shifts as needed assist Public Works department with snow removal activities

  • Servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and   equipment that operate primarily based on mechanical principles.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned
